The Ethical Computer company makes Tunstall it's new home
The Ethincal Computer Company are a computer sales and repairs company with a difference.
Rather than sell the most state of the art over priced piece of hardware you'll never fully utilize, TECC instead recycle PC's that have plenty of life left in them, usually rescued from companies who chuck out valuable equipment after 6 months.
You see TECC have built their business on waste. Although this waste isn't the rubbish sort, but the sort of technology that's thrown out on a whim. The sad fact is both Public and Private sector waste so much technology, abandoning thousands of pounds of computer equipment to the rubbish heap.
The Ethical Computer Company make regular pleas for this sort of equipment and put it to good use by refurbishing old equipment, in some cases breaking the PC down into spare parts.
Some of the computers are stripped down for spare parts and made use of in TECC's repair shop.
Some of the computers are used to teach people the skills needed to repair PC's.
Some of the computers are used in TECC's computer training suite, offering computer causes to all, better still offering the chance for people to get access to a PC who wouldn't normally.
TECC have even donated computers to ours and other countries poorest communities, taking consignments of refurbished PC's and teaching people how to use and repair them. This sort of work has taken some of the TECC team to many far away places such as North and Central Africa where the chances of getting your hands on a PC are very slim.
Tunstall
In the early part of this year, TECC will be opening a UK ONLINE centre in the heart of Tunstall.
Two floors of computer training environments catering for both disabled and able bodied users are being put together.
By moving to Tunstall, TECC will now be able to offer the community the chance to get online, learn new skills, enhance the community.
TECC will be playing a key part in Tunstall's effort to achieve the goals of Race Online 2012 by giving access to some of the most deprived areas in the city the chance to experience the internet for the very first time whilst arming them with the know how of how to use it.
Repairs and Shop
The repairs and shop part of the business are up and running so please come and pay them a visit, they are a friendly and welcoming bunch, who will be able to assist you with all of your PC needs.
Tunstall should really consider themselves lucky to have TECC arrive on our door step and will be making a big difference for many people in the area, and I for one would like to offer them a warm welcome to Tunstall.
Please call into the shop, which can be found on the corner of Forester street and Phoenix Street at the Hose Street Works.
