2000 in one week? I hope our beloved Councillors are reading this, time to un-glue bums from chairs and start sticking up for your local area.
According to Openly Local, Tunstall has 5,677 dwellings, with 12,381 people live in this area, so we need more people to step forward, download a petition from our Save Our Pool and get signatures.
That's brilliant work Paula. Are you working with the old chap who I've seen in the market?
I know, i cant believe it
I know, i cant believe it myself. it just goes to show what the local folk actually think of this!!
From what bill (the old chap) said to me on tuesday, he had at least 550 signatures, so in reality we have managed to get in excess of 2550, without janets.
I will update everyone tomorrow with a final figure prior to handing the originals over to joan walley
I have a few signatures here

i will also hand to joan (and richard) the Chronic Disease prevalence figures for the four local surgeries (in tunstall) with a comparison to national statistics.
Might be useful for the councillors to take a look!!!!
Me and my 6 year old have
Me and my 6 year old have done a couple of houses tonight on the JRW side of the estate, out of 41 houses, 19 signatures, 23 not ins and only 3 not interested in signing - so that's not bad. Most people tonight were all for signing and were surprised that Tunstall Pool was up for closure once again.
Before you say my figures don't add 41 (some houses had visitors who also signed).
Those houses that had no response from, have made a note so they can be aimed at again over the weekend! they won't escape us.
Many thanks for all the hard work that is going into saving Tunstall Pool.

A quick thankyou to those households that were in on the Wilson Connelly estate this weekend that very kindly signed the petition. 25 - 30 houses not in which isn't too bad and only 5 - 6 no thank you's.

do we have an up to date figure yet for the petitions?
WM and mine collected 2465. dear old bill got 550 as far as i am aware.
Paula and Web Monkey 2465, we
Paula and Web Monkey 2465, we will assume 550 for Bill, We have 487 from Tunstall Pool and the Swallows Rise Estate. I am awaiting the Heritage Park Estate Totals and Web Monkey has a few more. I will email Joan Walley with a PDF of the complete dataset Tuesday of this week.
I would estimate the total to be approximately 3,600 at present. We could really do with a copy of Bills petition forms if anyone can ask him.
A few of the shops in Tunstall were running petitions also so we could do with getting those in. I have copied all the sheets I have and added them to your copies.
Is anyone attending the council meeting as we could then put forward a copy of the petition.

the shops in tunstall were collected in on friday and handed to joan.
re: bill - he mentioned at the protest to me that he was handing his over to joan walley's husband last friday
hello I'm interested in
hello
I'm interested in raising some money to show the council , that we are keen to keep the pool open. does anyone know of a way to do this?
I will be at the meeting tomorrow night ,hopefully to dfiscuss this .
I have spoken to a china company and they can make us some china cups that could read " save tunstall pool" and may be the dates & the" life ring" as on the posters.
we can sell them on, to raise cash ,
100 cups =£246.00+vat = cost £2.46 per cup.
We couls sell them on , what do you all think, you might have mates or family that could get it cheaper?
does anyone know of any business that would give us a lump sum ? to try and keep it open or pay towards the repairs?
Hi Janet I think we need joan
Hi Janet
I think we need joan walley to get involved with this one, as she had already been liaising with a number of governing bodies to keep the pool open and they all seem to be willing to hold talks on funding etc
I gave my completed petitions
I gave my completed petitions to bill.
The Aqua fit , swimming groups and anyone else who wants to join in, are having a swin in at the pool on tuesday at 1.30. As we swim ,we can plan our next" plan of action".
Dont know if its going to
Dont know if its going to help but have e-mailed every councillor the below e-mail:
Dear Councillors
I find myself writing this e-mail as a last chance to save the oldest grade 2 listed swimming pool left open in England and ask you to each make an informed decision on the closure of the pool, rather than the opinion of a few councillors.
The public have never been given the opportunity to scrutinise the figures from the council with regards to maintenance and management costs, as all requests from us have fallen on deaf ears.
We have recently been liaising with Joan Walley regarding a strategy for saving our beloved pool. She informs me that our council has made no approach to governing bodies/charities i.e heritage lottery fund, national lottery fund etc to try to save this pool from closure.
We are also currently in talks with resident associations on setting up a trust, so that we can take the responsibility away from the council and keep the pool open.
In the space of a two week period we have collected nearly 4000 signatures on a petition and the pool is constantly being spoken about in the local newspaper in a very positive manner.
This pool is held in very high regard by the local community and is used by a large number of schools to teach swimming, along with many children having private swimming lessons there (including mine).
We have very targetted facilities in the tunstall area and facilities that attract the whole scope of the population seem to be sadly diminshing.
I implore each and every one of you, when casting your vote on thursday to please take a look at the bigger picture and at least give our community a stay of execution so that we can keep this fabulous pool, and maintain our heritage.

my email to all councillors
Do you know what your spending on?
What is £7M contingency for, if for rainy day what is todays closure of much valued services if not dark and rainy?
Why increase adition to reserves from £0.5M to £1.5M a year increase UN-allocated reserves to £8.3M, I say alternative budget and ALLOCated some, you only need around £4M in UN-allocated reserves?
What is the City Council’s “service redesign and remodelling programme” ? if you don’t know why spend £25M on it, if you do please let residents know.
Last what options are available for Tunstall Pool, have you read the consultants report into alternative ways to run it?
If you can answer all the above please contact http://PitsnPots.co.uk and http://mytunstall.co.uk and provide them with the answers
Please make an IMFORMED decision when setting the budget, if you’re not sure your surely can’t vote on it surely, Defer until your sure.

Just been to the "Swim In" at Tunstall Pool, but there was no one there that I recognized from the protest last week. The Sentinel did turn up though and luckily one lady was there with a banner so hopefully that'll keep the profile up. Was the "Swim In" rescheduled?

Hi Sarah
Was there not a good turn out for the swim in then?
Afraid I couldn't make it today, but I've not feeling my best over the past few days.

I've no BB sitter tonight - I'll have to check your site for the next development.
Turnout was poor I'm afraid - but we had a good time anyway and reminded us why we want the pool saved in the first place!

Hi sarah,
there wasn't a good turn out, only a few of the Aqua-fit ladies stayed. The film crew did film them going into the building and did some interviews.
the aqua ladies are meeting next week before the class, 11.45 to protest again, thats tuesday 1st march..
some of the aqua-fit group went to the meeting last night, It sounded positive, and if Mr & Mrs johnson can meet with the councilors and other interested parties on monday morning, it might even get saved.
like Joan said" if we all work together", then maybe we can get a plan together.
To all councillors - i can
To all councillors - i can assure you that on behalf of everyone involved that we are all working flat out to keep this pool up and running!!
We only need a stay of execution and will gladly take the pool off your hands. It is not alot to request in the grand scheme of things.
I implore you all, to do the right thing for our community.
Gutted I couldn't come along
Gutted I couldn't come along last night and lend my support and voice.
How did the meeting go last night? I read a bit in the Sentinel, which mentions you've got 5 weeks.
Did our Councillors come out fighting or have they suggested support? Judging from Tom Reynolds email the other day it was pretty much a closed case, the pool will close.
Were there more supporters there than on Friday?
turnout last night was very
turnout last night was very good indeed. all three councillors, joan walley, BBC and the sentinel turned up.
got through quite a bit, and had some positive responses overnight from a few councillors with consciences.
the overall majority of folk want to set up a trust ASAP. we are just waiting for contact details from Joan re: the ASA etc and we can get cracking on this.
This is not and as never been
This is not and as never been about money.
This is about political posturing by our councillors against a Con/Lib Government.
As myself and Ian Norris have pointed out £41 millon in the DMO,
Ians post.

I have spoken to the Amateur
I have spoken to the Amateur Swimming Association who are very enthusiastic about keeping this great facility open. They are having a conference call with the council tomorrow, lets keep our fingers crossed that they can successfully negotiate the start of setting up a charitable trust, this could be a new start for this great facility.
At last some wonderful,
At last some wonderful, positive news. everyone, lets keep everything crossed!!
i was assured by megan on
i was assured by megan on 17th february that she will be voting against the cuts. Lets see shalll we?!

And so the stitch up is
And so the stitch up is finally revieled in todays sentinel.
If this is what they'e been working to, why haven't they said? Lots of the Tunstall Pool campaigners have been asking lots of questions directly, but it's the first we've heard.
Basically the investment in established pools will be placed in school pools. Which currently don't open outside of regular school times, don't have the changing facilities and so on.
I thought I saw dirty politics with dimensions but to release this info today of all days, well it tells you everything about this current council.
I wish the people they once were could come along and have a chat, but chances are they'd drop them in the canal.
For me, this hasn't been about politics, or hidden monies, it's been about saving a well used facility by the young the old, that if run better (i.e not by the council) would be making profit and would not need to be closed. It's been about preserving and improving fitness and also preserving heritage.
@tunstallpool

i forsee more inaction in the chamber and afterwards, bet you see tunstall pool raised though come election times
people power is very
people power is very under-rated!!
I cant speak for everyone else on this, (although I do know there are a few people out there who feel the same) but i know that I will fight tooth and nail, and will not give up, until this pool is in the safe hands of our new trust!!
I think we should all keep
I think we should all keep fighting,,"hope is not lost".
there is a meeting on monday morning with some investors.
the aqua fit group will have another protest on tuesday 1st march at 11.45, everyone is welcome.then come in and do the aqua class, it's great fun (while you can)
can anyone get in touch with the press and radio and tweet?
keep your chin up
I think we need to check into
I think we need to check into the implications of the school pools being kept afloat at the expense of Tunstall Pool. Are the schools who do not have pools and currently use Tunstall Pool for their swimming lesson going to be forced to use one of these school pools instead....
I think a councillor needs to look into this ASAP..
coming on now on 6towns
