Another accident occurring on Reginald Mitchell Way
Another accident occurring on Reginald Mitchell Way. This time I was unfortunately personally involved.
On Tuesday morning this week, whilst on my way to work, I was stationary in traffic waiting to cross the bottom roundabout by Chemical Lane and the A500.
Whilst stopped, I looked in my side mirror to see a 3 ton lorry approaching rather rapidly. At that point it was obvious that it was travelling to fast to stop in time and then proceeded to smash right into the back of my vehicle. A nice way to start the day!
The reason given for this unfortunate crash by the driver, was that a can of Lynx deodorant had rolled under his brake pedal. Thus using my vehicle as means to stop his truck. He says 10 MPH on impact. I would double that.
Police and an ambulance attended, with little interest in the incident from the police, mealy saying " it was an accident"???????
Since when has it been legal to have items rolling about the floor in a vehicle that inhibit braking?????
All I could say at that was " it was a good job is wasn't a kiddie crossing the road then"
So thanks to the driver of that vehicle, there is now a 1 tonne Transit Van written off as the chassis is bent and twisted and I am off work with a bad back, elbow and shoulder.
Had it been a normal vehicle such as a car that had been hit, I would not like to think of what kind of damage would of been caused and I am sure a very different situation would of occurred.
Not quite the 'Lynx Affect' you would expect!

Sounds really nasty, hope you're on the mend.
That's two Bankeyfields RA members who have been rammed off or bashed into by lorries in as many months + the notice board. I can't think who we've upset....
Hi ccna99 wishing you a
Hi ccna99 wishing you a speedy recovery I myself was involved in an accident a couple of months ago involving an articulated lorry on the A5oo. This idiot failed to use his mirrors and consequently he ran me off the road causing considerable damage to my car. Unlucky for me the Police refused to attend the scene of the accident as their where no injuries and we had not stopped the flow of traffic I was told just to exchange insurance details. At the time of the accident the driver admitted that he was totally at fault until he filled in his accident report when he got back to his depot. He now claims that it was my fault and as there were no witnesses his insurance want to settle the claim on a knock for knock basis.
My advice for anyone involved in an accident, get the police to attend the scene even if you have to tell lies to get them there. Take photos if possible at the scene and get a signed statement off the other driver to who was actually at fault.
Firstly, I am sorry that you
Firstly, I am sorry that you have been involved in a accident, but I could not let your comment go, without a reply.
As there were not any witnesses, we only have your word for it, and the other party was aware of this, does this make that party a bad person, when you advocate, not only lying to the police, but wasting their time, when they may have more important jobs to do, at the end of the day, although expensive, vehicles are only pieces of metal, and would prefer the polices time to be spent more wisely. rant over

CCNA my thoughts exactly
CCNA my thoughts exactly maybe it was your fault for being stationary waiting in traffic.................. How clear can it be.............
Some comments on here are beyond belief, you know who you are...
Hope you are feeling better soon mate

Ahhh Sharky. As regards
Ahhh Sharky. As regards leaving the Police to do more important matters. Indeed you could be right. I refer to your post made on the 19th November 2009 titled " Feel Let Down"
http://mytunstall.co.uk/blog/feel-let-down-sharky.html
Fallen braches on roads which are the responsibility of the council, not a police matter.
I am not sure whether you above comments are pointed at me or bj-bj, if at me I find them offensive.
You do not quite make it clear to whom your comments are directed at?
I my-self feel let down by the police as does bj-bj, just as you felt with your tree branch !
As regards to to the
As regards to to the branches, persons were injured, and there was a real chance of more injuries, and there could have been more than the 8 vehicles damaged, had not the tree being removed quickly. I am sorry you feel my comments offensive, the comment was specificly towards calling out police with lies, I too find lying to police, and wasting their time, offensive too.
Further to my earlier
Further to my earlier comments, I think that they may have been mis-interpreted, as regards to the role of the police with regards to Road Traffic Collisions, as explained by further comments to my blog
http://mytunstall.co.uk/blog/feel-let-down-sharky.html
There responsibilities are set out quite clearly, I felt let down, because some of their responsibilities were not fullfilled, EG not making the area safe, both for themselves, and the public, but it was more of the boundary issue, I was ranting over in my blog, and the time taken to attend. As regards to myself and my vehicle, as laid out in the highway code, and my insurance company, was my responsibility to sort out.
Sharkey with comments like
Sharkey with comments like that you should be a politician, I pay my council tax which goes towards funding the Police so surely I should be entitled to some support. Regarding my accident if the police had attended I am 100% sure the lorry driver would have been cautioned and charged with driving without due care and attention on this occasion he has got off scot free. Perhaps next time he drives like this the next car may not be so lucky he may wipe out an innocent family which could have been avoided if he had been cautioned for his first offence. With your attitude I fully appreciate the rising costs of car insurance my only hope is if you are ever in need of police assistance I hope you are not regarded a time waster. I take it from this you are all in favour of the government cuts and welcome the prospect of fewer police.
Please think what you are
Please think what you are saying, you regard the police as your own personal protection, as a car driver, you are bound the civil laws, do not expect criminal law to interveen when you have a problem, grow up, you are living in a real world, you taxes do go to pay for the police, but your incident is a civil case, not covered by your council tax, thank god, as we all would be bankcrupt by now. as for saying the driver may have done something wrong in the future, get a life. If you dissagree about your treatment, or feel abused by the system, I would suggest you give up driving.
You do not mention that lying
You do not mention that lying to the police is an ends to a means. if you mention the statement, at least have the balls to stand by your convictions
God I am glad to be out of
God I am glad to be out of the loop, people are so insular, mentioning past comments, and referring them to branches, oops it was a whole tree, and has caused a lot of distress, and court cases, not me, I may add, I urge people to think before putting comments on, without thought.
