Goldenhill - Bring the planters back proposed locations
Plans have been released for the proposed locations of the Goldenhill plant boxes. But with no sign of any compromise from the objectors, Out and About spokeswomen Christine Humphreys will be standing in todays council chamber meeting [watch it live, or replay from tomorrow] to deliver the 600 name petition to Councillors.
Good Afternoon Councillors Ladies and gentlemen.
My name is Christine Humphreys secretary of the Goldenhill Out and About Club our logo “putting the golden back in the hill”
A new Club started only 18months ago with 2 simple aims
1) to create a social club
2) to improve our environmentA group friends came together to try to do something about the issues facing our community such as:
No where to get together
A decimated High StreetWe raise our own funding and have received many generous donations from individuals for our cause.
Our club is successful we have over 100 members and a core group of 30+ every week
Since beginning with nothing we have
A brilliant weekly club
Begun to make a difference on our High Street( which is the main arterial road into the city from the north)Our achievements
Installed 2 beautiful cast iron seats on our High Street Previously there were NO seats at all despite having a huge elderly population
Planted over 2000 daffodils along the high street with schools police fire service and council taking part
and Planters on the railings
We were thrilled when these were installed fully planted with winter pansies.
Instant effect brightness an impression of care and pride in our community.Unfortunately Sage Goldenhill and Sandyford Residents Committee complained saying the planters were an obstruction.
Now our club had nothing to do with locations siting or fitting of said planters but we were ensured several times by the council and by our MP that they were safe and were staying.
However despite these reassurances and another complaint, suddenly and urgently almost 4 months after installation ALL the planters were REMOVED.
Our petition shows just how many want the planters back SAFELY on our High Street
Another site visit has been made by the experts I have received proposed new locations they have sent a copy to Sage We Understand that there may be further objections to the new proposed locations
I am here on behalf of MY CLUB MY COMMUNITY to ask for your support in reinstalling our planters on our High Street.
I would also like to ask you for your support in the future in our quest to enhance our village and our community
We are trying in these difficult times to put a little brightness pride and hope into our High Street for our residents and visitors and also the many hundreds of people who pass through our high street into the city every dayTHANK YOU
Christine Humphreys secretary of the Goldenhill Out and About Club
