Is it July already? Looks like Bankeyfields openspace might now actually have a proper maintenance plan

After a long standing argument with the council over the lack of maintenance to the Bankeyfields Openspace it now looks like some sort of maintenance plan is in place, as I saw a tractor today cutting the park area's grass.
The Bankeyfields Residents Association hasn't had word of a fix plan now in place, so I don't know if anyone else knows anything, but for once the sight of a tractor on the openspace wasn't met by annoyance or the sight of small children getting lost as make their way through the tall grass to the park.
Finally hats off to Stoke on Trent City Council for coming out.
Now if I was a cynic I'd say something like "you can tell there is an election coming up" but as I'm not that sort of person, I wouldn't say that

We are fast approaching the
We are fast approaching the end of the financial year and budgets have to be spent or any money saved is lost. Over the past month the council have edged the grass done a litter pick around the play area emptied the bins, ploughed the bottom of the open-space, erected a notice board and then collected a damaged notice board so hats off to the council long may it last. Hopefully soon the whole of the estate may be adopted instead of just half of it, here is looking to the future.

Well as i drove home and saw all those sticks in the ground it made me think.....
Will it not making it harder to mow the grass with all those trees and supports in the way?
Oh and how many trees can it sustain?

I do have to agree with you
I do have to agree with you there popeye I did have the same thought, mind you reading one of WM's earlier posts the supports will soon be gone thanks to the local kids no doubt!!!!!
The grass cut - this is only the start of spring and the 1st cut - lets see if it comes back at any other times during the Spring / Summer.

Rach, we haven't had a first cut since the park was opened and things were done properly. I think it's too early to expect this to be the norm, and as bryn notes it is end of budget time.
Gordy / Rach ... I cant speak
Gordy / Rach ...
I cant speak for the Council (Heaven forbid!) but having spent the day planting 300 trees (Around £10k's worth so far) with the Community Payback Kids and expecting a further 100 to be planted on Wednesday alongside the strimming of all the overgrown areas surrounding the park all for nothing, I kinda hope that the Council wont dare not look after the grassed areas through the Summer.
I admit it wont be as easy now, but I'm already in the process of speaking with Staffs Probation Service to get the grassed areas surrounding the trees cut by their guys once a fortnight if we can provide a petrol mower to do it ... (Time to lean on Focus I think). Also, The Community Payback team want to get involved with work on the roundabout, including repainting and introducing flower beds. Something I hope we can all agree on ...
As for the area supporting the trees, I've taken advice not only from the Woodland Trust but also from the Ecology Officer at Stoke Council (See the Map they provided) and no tree is planted closer than four metres to another so theres plenty of room ... Wo betide the "children" messing with "my babies" moving forward ...
Hope that explains a little about whats going on ... Feel free to ask me more at the next RA Meeting ...
Mikey ...
