Great to see the Aqua club

Great to see the Aqua club stand up for their pool again. So many people are quick to roll over and be trodden down, so it's so good to see so much passion and spirit.

Wednesday, March 02, 2011 Swimmers hope that Tunstall Pool can still be saved

The Amateur Swimming Association, the UK's national governing body for swimming, is due to hold talks with the city council.

While the ASA does not run pools itself, according to its website it acts as a "catalyst and facilitator" to ensure suitable facilities are available.

The city council has said that it will consider offers to take over the pool, although it claims that £360,000 of maintenance work needs to be carried out and it can't afford to do it out because of cuts in Government funding.

Around 110,000 people used the pool in 2009/10, including school children, senior citizens and people with special needs.

Members of the aquafit class believe the popularity of the baths should guarantee its survival.

Reading the notice from Joan Walley MP on, Social Investment Banking

Can't really grasp what angle is one part says (page 37)

the Big Society Bank will act as a wholesaler, in accordance with the Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Act 2008. This means that it will not invest directly in individual, front-line social ventures

but then says (page 38)

the Bank will do two main things:

act as wholesale investor – investing in funds for front-line social ventures, funds for intermediaries, and funds for new market vehicles and infrastructure

But it does say

Investment funds for front-line social ventures – these would increase the supply of capital available to front-line social ventures. The funds could have specific ‘themes’, such as supporting youth opportunities, financialinclusion, or the purchase of community assets

Would purchase of Community Assets help, business plan for Tunstall Pool?
