Reward Points Cold Call Scam Alert
Problem: A local consumer received a telephone call from a company claiming that there were reward points from their credit card that were available to use to claim a holiday in Florida and the Bahamas.
Credit card details were given to the company so that they could check that the card was the correct one, but the caller advised that it was the wrong card and asked for details of another one.
At this point the consumer ended the call and contacted their credit card company to report the card lost or stolen; the card company then stated that the company had tried to take £693.88 from the card but had been unable to due to insufficient funds.
Action: Be extremely wary of any unsolicited telephone calls in which the caller asks for any financial details such as credit card numbers or personal details such as your date of birth. This type of information can be used to
steal your identity.
Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
If you have given your details to a caller such as this, contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 or online at www.consumerdirect.gov.uk.
