Wow! I can't ever
Wow!
I can't ever remember attending a meeting like that before!
Anti-social behaviour is clearly the number issue with the residents of Sandyford and Goldenhill, and what they have had to put up with is appaling, in one street the trouble has been ongoing for 4 and a half years!
The trouble is coming from a handful of anti social scum, people that should have been evicted from their premises years ago, but because this city council is so backward and incompetent in its workings, and the councillors so inneffectual in their achievements, the decent, law abiding folk of Sandyford and Goldenhill are still facing this daily battle.
And I don't understand why. The city council are only now about to trial a scheme called selective licensing, where private landlords will be forced to sort out problems with anti-social behaviour coming from their properties, this is something that should have been in use for years, in fact, I thought it was! Why not kick them out? I asked, only to be told the council don't have the power to do so!
We had a Labour government, 3 Labour MP's, and a Labour council, what the hell have these people been doing all this time?!
Martin Garner and the Lib Dem were missing again, the Lib Dem had a family do to attend- and I believe that will be reflected in the voting- and Martin Garner has a poorly leg- I've got two, but I managed to put in an appearence.
From comments made both inside and outside the hall, people are sick and fed up with getting no action from their councillors and the parties they represent, though I did get a little stick from Frank, who was sitting by the door, about racism too, so here's the brief manifesto I said I'd post.
What we stand for.
1) An independent English nation.
2) An English Parliament in a federal British Isles.
3) Stop all further immigration.
4) British jobs for British workers.
5) The return of Capital punishment.
6) The restoration of cororal punishment.
7) Withdrawal from the European Union.
8) Bring our troops home- they are needed here.
9) Teaching of the traditional English history in our schools.
10) Support for the tradional family unit.
You tell me what any Englishman could have to disagree with on that.
6) The restoration of cororal
6) The restoration of cororal punishment.
Does that mean the accused needs to spend all of his money on the nags
? Every one takes the mickey out of my spellings so why got I do it to.

I just wanted to take the
I just wanted to take the opportunity to clarify your point. The city council's Cabinet will be viewing a report submitted to them with regards to the proposed selective licensing scheme in Tunstall, and they will then decide to either approve or reject the scheme.
Selective licensing is a tool the city council can use to address issues of antisocial behaviour and low demand affecting an area with a high number of privately rented properties. If the scheme is approved selective licensing will be used alongside other initiatives to help regenerate an area, by improving the private rented sector. Landlords will receive help and support, and will work alongside Staffordshire Police and the city council if their tenants are causing antisocial behaviour.

This talk of kicking people
This talk of kicking people out of their homes remind you of any time period? Some of the reasons you can't just sling people out of a home is so that power is abused.
Your manifesto is just one loss of civil rights after another, and you talk about vritish jobs for british people, but if we pull away from europe there will be no jobs
Jon, what are you on
Jon,
what are you on about now?
Talking of civil rights, where are the civil rights of the English?
We have had unlimited immigration and membership of the EU forced on us by a corrupt political establishment that has no interest in what is best for the country, solely what is best for itself.
At no time have the people of this country ever had the opportunity to vote as to whether or not they want this immigration, neither have they had the chance to vote as to whether they want to be members of the EU money pit, this too has been forced on them by politicians that are working to their own agenda.
Any talk of losing jobs through removing ourselves from the EU is ridiculous, cutting ourselves off from the unelected communist thieves of the EU would be the making of this country.
selective licensing is that
selective licensing is that same as accredited landlords, that was in process 10yrs ago is it really not yet in place?
Ian, No selective licensing
Ian,
No selective licensing is not the same as the Landlord Accreditation Scheme. For more information please go to stoke.gov.uk and search for both selective licensing and the accreditation scheme, or search for selective licencing on this forum.
It was a particularly
It was a particularly entertaining meeting tonight, with some very heated debates between residents and the panel of the RA and guests.
But the most bizzar part of the night came from the Council Candidates.
Only one person received a big clap and that was for Dave Sutton, as he took the platform.
Tom Simpson read out an email by the lib dem candidate, although I'm still not convinced he exists which spoke more about national matters than local.
Joy Garner covered for Martin her husband, as he's not feeling very well, and Joy's main point was to vote for Martin as it would show a sign of contempt to London.
Craig Pond, got a number of hecklers from sections of the audience in relation to the Gypsy comments on MyTunstall, and ended his stint with a slanging match with a gent at the back.
Megan Ryan, forgot that she was given the mic to sell her self, and got her self side tracked with other matters, and bungled her summing up showing that it pays to prepare for these sorts of things.
Ian, yes, I was
Ian,
yes, I was shocked to find out that after 5 years selective licensing is still just about to be trialed in the city, and in a tiny area. Meanwhile, the people I spoke to last night would have to continue putting up with the most unacceptable behaviour.
What the hell this city council has been doing for the last decade, God only knows.
The city council must apply
The city council must apply strict criteria in order to designate an area as a selective licensing area, such as high numbers of privately rented properties, high incidences of antisocial behaviour and low demand for housing. If the designation is to be approved, evidence must first be submitted to show this is the case.
It is a tool to use as a last resort, and cannot be placed across the whole city, nor can it be used in isolation to address the issues an area faces.
For further information please go to stoke.gov.uk, or search for selective licensing on this web forum.
thanks, so selective
thanks, so selective licensing forces all landlords in the area to be accredited landlords?
accredited landlords has been running since 2003 but is voluntary?
Yes the North Staffs Landlord
Yes the North Staffs Landlord Accreditation Scheme is voluntary, and selective licensing does not force landlords to be accredited landlords, all landlords can choose to join the scheme and receive the benefits of the scheme.
But it will force Landlords
But it will force Landlords to obtain a licence, I hope this scheme does as intended and am sure other wards will be asking to be next setup after the trial period in tunstall
As don't think accreditation as really had any effect on nusiance tenants, it may have helped bring the standard of some accomadation up to scratch
If the scheme is approved
If the scheme is approved then yes landlords in this area will have to have a licence in order to operate.
As previously mentioned, the city council must apply strict criteria in order to designate an area as a selective licensing area, such as high numbers of privately rented properties, high incidences of antisocial behaviour and low demand for housing. If the designation is to be approved, evidence must first be submitted to show this is the case.
It is a tool to use as a last resort, and cannot be placed across the whole city and should not be used across whole wards, nor can it be used in isolation to address the issues an area faces. However, if there is another area that is experiencing these problems, providing there is evidence to support it, the team will investigate the feasibility of the scheme to help address these problems.
The Landlord Accreditation Scheme is not a scheme to address tenants' behaviour. The scheme was set up to acknowledge the commitment that many private landlords make in providing and maintaining properties to a high standard, often above the standard required by law.

Matt, the
Matt,
the introduction of the candidates was the craziest thing I've been included in! It was hectic and chaotic, and the biggest round of appause was for Megan Ryan when she sat down!
I don't know why Joy Garner was allowed to talk, it's her husband that is supposed to be standing, and he hasn't answered the questions, nor has he attended either of the two meetings of the R.A.s
Sutton might have got some applause as he stood up, but he didn't get any when he finally shut up and sat down, inspite of having a cheap shot at me, and I stood to talk with the idea of what I wanted to say firmly in mind, but the shouting- someone had given some old fart up the back a pint to heckle me- people talking to me and asking questions of me from the audience, I completely lost track of what I wanted to say.
Whether I get in or not, I'll be booking my place for the next one!
I think the old fart, or as I
I think the old fart, or as I like to call these people, prospective members of a ward that you would represent, was just like everyone else in the room, expressing his right to an opinion. I don't know the chap so can't comment, but you will have noticed people used their voices in that meeting.
The only person with control in the room was the lady at the back who'd been targeted by a certain clan and her family had suffered years of ABS. When she told her family to shhh, they shut up pdq. Plus there was some serious back peddling going on.
As a voter I've got to say, May 5th will be one of the hardest decisions of my life. It wasn't a great showing by anyone last night.
I was also at the meeting
I was also at the meeting last night, it was my first time and I was appalled by the resident committee's total lack of interest in what the residents had to say ( or not, as apparently they were not allowed to) which seems strange to say the least as I thought they were there as representives of the residents!!!!!!!!!!!
If residents are not allowed to voice their concerns, what they would like to happen or not in their own community, then what is the point of having a residents committee who doesnt want to listen?????????
It was stated by the committee that they had done lots of good work over a long period of time, which I dont doubt for a minute, BUT if they listened more to the local people and answered their questions PERHAPS more would get done.
Instead of "back biting" each other, lets all join together to make Goldenhill and Sandyford a much nicer place to live and a place to be proud of. We are the gateway to the city so come on everybody join in and make it a beautiful place to live in or drive through. I say more seats for our old(and young) bones to rest on, more tubs of flowers for us to look at, and hopefully we will all see the area in a different light.
Hiya Dotty It wasn't nice to
Hiya Dotty
It wasn't nice to witness a community pulling itself apart.
I was also at the meeting and there was an opportunity for new people to run SAGE. What I don't understand is why that wasn't taken if feelings was so bad? If two names were put forward for vice chairmen and chairman then there things would have been different. Is it because both groups can no longer work together?
As an outsider, so not in possession of all of the facts I also got a distinct feeling of a Sandyford/Goldenhill divide, am I right in thinking that? If that isn't the case why not create two enthusiastic groups that aren't treading on each others toes, that could come together?
I believe there has been long
I believe there has been long divide between the two, can the groups now come together as a ward now?
as a fairly recently returned
as a fairly recently returned resident I didnt feel that I was able to apply to go on the committee. Dont know why there appears to be this divide, I can only say that olive branches have been offered and no reply has been forthcoming. I feel sure that everyone has the good of Goldenhill and Sandyford at heart so come on lets all get together and do even more for our villages and residents.
I was not at the meeting, but
I was not at the meeting, but have been to plenty locally and around the country to imagine what went on!
I agree with Web Monkey that it is very hard to choose as none of the people standing appear to be suitable. I was a long time member of Labour, I left when it was obvious that they were not going to return the assets stolen by the Tories (BT, gas, water, electricity and so on) to the country even though they had a huge majority and were going to be in power for at least three terms. Anyway, that is not the point. For one of the first times I may not vote for anyone as having seen Martin Garner in meetings he is totally unsuitable to stand and one day may realise it.
I think now however much I want to see Labour in power in the City I will probably spoil my vote, however I will vote on the electoral system.
I THINK THE R E S I D E N T
I THINK THE R E S I D E N T C O M M I T T E E NEEDS NEW FACES AND FAST HAS ITS TOTALY RUBBISHTHERE DOING NOTHING FOR OUR COMMUNITY
!!!!! GET RID OF OUR R E S I D E N T C O M M I T T E E LETS SEE FRESH FACES !!!
Thanks Craig for your concern
Thanks Craig for your concern for my husbands health. He has been in the care of our GP all week, but to no avail, the infection in his leg is not responding to all the GP's max strength penicillins. He has been kept in hospital on introvenous anti-biotics. If unlucky, he could lose a limb. If very unlucky he could die. I hope he is just plain lucky and lives. Winning his election would be a bonus.
Joy Garner,
Joy Garner,
if your husband is so ill, how does he expect to be able to represent the people of S&G?
On the S&G website, your husband says he will be campaigning in the ward from now till the election, but how will he do that if he is at deaths door?
So, he's either lying about campaigning because his illness will not let him, or he's lying about the severity of his illness and he'll be out campaigning!
Perhaps you could clear it up for us candidates and residents as to just what it is your husband is lying about.
Joy I attended this meeting
Joy I attended this meeting and was glad to hear Martins words. Our thoughts are with you and Martin at this time.
Pond, you really are a lowlife. I'm glad Dave Sutton pointed out this site as I really didn't know how much of one you really are. Back tracked and grovelled to the traveler lady didnt you. She should have taken you to the field and given you what for. After hearing the candidates speak I think Dave Sutton will be the best representing us. Not some racist who verbally goes on the attack, who'd do nothing for us. Am I right in thinking you don't work and havent for years?
Mr Jones,
Mr Jones,
my mother told me of people like you, she said, "they 're more to be pitied than chided."
I now understand what she meant.
You have your descriptions back to front. You call me a lowlife and Sutton the best choice to represent S&G?!
He is the lowlife. He is the one taking money to represent the people of Northwood and Birches Head. He is the one letting those people down by working in another area because he knows he will lose his current seat in the upcoming elections, that's like being paid by Woolworths and working in W.H.Smiths!
And what of you? Pity you didn't have the (edit) to say something to me whilst you were at the hustings, instead of scuttling back home to write nasty things on your keyboard. If you go and check the questions we candidates were asked to fill in, my answer to Matts question on which residents would be my priority, I said the decent, law abiding ones.
Now if you are saying these women are part of the problem, then kindly provide proof.
I am in receipt of benefits, though not Disability, nor do I have an outstanding claim for it. I would however, be very happy to hand back those few benefits in favour of the councillors allowance.
Don't let the stick fool you, nobodies going to give me what for.
Sounds like a feisty meeting,
Sounds like a feisty meeting, missed it as I wasn't aware.
Was anybody Chairing the meeting, or was it a free for all?
How'd I find out about these in future?

UPDATE Tunstall Landlords have submitted a possible legal challenge

Hiya Ian Just a small update
Hiya Ian
Just a small update for you. The cabinet meeting has been delayed until next cabinet meeting (28th July) to give the council a short amount of time to ensure no legal challenge can scupper this much needed scheme, for the people whose lives have in some case being blighted by unsociable tenants and land lords who have no interest in the areas they let in.
Local residents groups were on hand last night to put their objections to North Staffordshire Landlord Association who raised the last minute object.
Next cabinet meeting will be a very big deal for the streets and social well being of Tunstall. Fingers crossed
To Craig Pond, could you
To Craig Pond, could you answer on here why you ignored my emails to you regarding the damage to my front door when either you or your representative pushed your leaflet through.
You also attack Dave Sutton for wanting to be elected for this area so what are your reasons ,coming from Chell?
