Gypsies off James Brindley Way (Tunstall Northern Bypass/Sandyford Cricket Club) update
At the Bankeyfields Resident Association meeting last night we had an update about the Gypsy camp that suddenly appeared at the back of Sandyford Cricket Club (Northern Tunstall Bypass, James Brindley Way).
The land they are illegally camped on is private land and not under the jurisdiction of the council, and as we found out last year the land owner was very slow to act.
It took the council last time around a long time to gain a possession order for the land a very long time because of difficulties with communication with the land owner.
Access appears to have been gained by breaking fencing panels, as the fence is not that sturdy and the landowner will be responsible for the clean up of the site after it is vacated, and securing of the land.
The council state that experience shows that the landowner last time was slow to arrange this, and the council is prepared to carry out works in default and re-charge the owner as we have done previously to ensure that there is not an undue delay in clearing this site.
The agent acting on behalf of the land owners will be contacting Stoke on Trent City Council shortly to highlight what steps the land owner is proposing to take and when.
Additionally the police are assessing the situation at they have strong concerns regarding how the travellers are accessing the busy main road which runs along side this site.
Waste
Waste from the last Gypsy illegal encampment on newly opened Genesis Business park can still be seen littering the banks of the Canal over one year later. The clean up of the field behind the cricket club never materialised either, so it's hoped that the councils intervention in the clean up and billing the property owner will force them to act quicker.

The breaking down of fences
The breaking down of fences or removal of obstruction to a site constitutes tresspassing which is dealt with by the police.
As a citezen try it and see what happens to you, but there again you are not a gypsy.
My point is if there is proof that (and there is) they have committed a crime why are they not punished for it?
Any legal eagles out there
Any legal eagles out there know if it's down to the land owner to report the crime first, or can the police just act?
British Law - was supposed to be about justice and meaning, but becoming more and more a loopholed mess, available to the rich only (oh and no win no fee lawyers)
Right, I've just been over to
Right, I've just been over to the camp, and it's already covered in rubbish. Take a look at the second image above.
They've gone! I've just had
They've gone!
I've just had an email from Cllr Martin Garner asking the land owners to give him a date for the clean up.
More recently the council have stated that they will carry out clean ups and bill the owner of the property for the work carried out.
