New ward councillor for Goldenhill and Sandyford Martin Garner stated in his election Q/A session that he will be tackling the wards problems, we just have to let him know.

So Martin, has been receiving random emails about issues in and around the Bankeyfields Estate from myself since becoming the new ward councillor, and true to his word and with all credit has being responding quickly and has started to work on some of the issues already (2nd day on the job).

Cllr Garner arranged for a site visit by the new head of council's environmental team Andy Edwards, who checked on the park current condition.

I joked with Andy that I was impressed with the recent grass cutting that had been taking place, asking cynically if was it arranged for election purposes?

The great news is though that this wasn't any ploy to win votes, but a whole new regime for the maintenance team. Since Mr Edwards started his new role in the position vacated by Paul Hankey at the beginning of April, the maintenance has been out of this world, with regular grass cutting. Park bins have been emptied regularly as well.

We've gone from having one or two grass cuts a year to several already this year, which also goes a long way to restoring faith in the 106 maintenance money situation.

Andy will be attending the Bankeyfields Residents Association meeting next week on Tuesday 17th May at the fire station at 7:00pm along with our new Cllr Martin Garner, and will be answering questions about maintenance.

Whilst he was here Mr Edwards did a site check on the park, but as there hasn't been that much activity this week due to the weather the bins are fairly empty and glass content was low.

During the visit though, a regular dog fouler did allow her unleaded Rotweiler to wander aimlessly as usual around the park, and the usual trouble makers did arrive in the park on their bikes.

Are things on the up for the area? It's to early to tell, and it's going to take everyone pulling together to make these things work, most of all the residents of our estates.

See you Tuesday at the fire station Bankeyfielders

Matt

Good move establishing a

Good move establishing a relationship early. Gets us the radar for when the going gets tough.

I didn't think of it that

I didn't think of it that way, but your right.
I'd like to say it was through forward planning but the real reason's are:
- we've got the meeting this Tuesday, so it would be good to get some of the blanks filled in for Martin
- also because we've really got to try and tackle the ABS over on the openspace before it becomes a no go area during the day time because of the danger from broken glass, and in the evening because of high, drunken lads heading on a downward spiral.

I suppose doing the election q/a's helped as well I'd already sent a few emails to all of the candidates at that point, although I'd not met the chap until Tuesday.
