New from the WEA: IT / keep fit club
hi everyone,
We are starting a couple of new things this week:
IT 3pm Haywood Library - intermediate computers & the internet - this is a five week course. The course costs £20 and is free to people on means-tested benefits.
Fitness clubs at Tunstall library. A lot of our group members were worried that with the closure of the pool there were less opportunities to meet so we're putting on these two sessions so that people can get together, do some exercise (suitable for all levels) and have a cup of tea and a chat.
They are at 11-12.30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 1.30-3pm and will cost £1 per session to cover costs.
It's a bit of an experiment to see if we can make them sustainable so your support coming along and especially letting anyone know who might be less connected would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Clare

Hi Clare,
I have only just joined this website, so this post might be a bit behind time. How is the keep fit group going? I shall certainly join it when we move into the area. Do you know fo any line dancing groups that I could join and do you know if there is a bowling club that we can join rather than just going bowling ourselves in Tunstall Park. I realise that this is not in your remit but I'm not sure where to post the questions.
Thanks, Tilly

Unfortunatly the address bj dj gave you although correct earlier in the year this club is now non existant, along with a lot of other clubs they fell into financial dificulties. Can I help you at all? What type of Bowls are we talking about. I have alot of friends and connections who play summer Greens Out doors and winter Short Matt. My husband plays Short matt For Tunstall Reform and Staffordshire. So if I can Help let me know. by the time you get here perminently the Greens season will be over I am thinking. Are you a member of a club where you live now, or do you play County bowls. Let me know how I can help. Scoobs.
Hi Sue, Thanks for your
Hi Sue,
Thanks for your offers of help.
Down here, in Bedford, we actually play lawn bowls. We belong to an indoor bowling club which is a purpose built eight rink affair with a bar, changing facilities and food available, as and when. My husband plays at least four times a week but I only play at weekends. Neither of us are County players although we do have some very nice woods!
I know that there's nothing like this in the S.O.T. area. When we were last visiting, in May, my husband had a game of Crown Green bowls with my uncle at Pittshill Club and he didn't do too badly.
We wanted to join a club and learn how to play 'your game' for the social aspects as well as for the sport itself. It's nice to get to know people through a common interest. What better way than making a fool of yourself trying to play a totally different game from what you are used to. The beauty of an indoor bowls club is that you can play all year round and not have to sit twiddling your thumbs between October and April.
Tilly, Regarding your
Tilly, Regarding your Bowls.
I have not forgotten you its just that I have been working and not had alot of time. Dennis(my husband)said to tell you that Pitshill,Knypersly,FeggHayes Clubs and Tunstall Park are your closest outdoor venues. The Short Matt Indoor season runs from October to March/April and the clubs close by are as follows Pitshill, FeggHayes, The Ryan Hall, Tunstall Reform, Newchaple W.M, and Knypersly. The only problem he can see is you getting into a team. As I mentioned previously alot of clubs are closing due to the resesion and bowlers are always moving from one team to another when a club closes down. There is a meeting of the S.S.M.B.A. (Staffs Short Matt Bowling Assosiation) befor the start of the season if I hear of any team looking for new players I will let you know.

hi Tilly, sorry I missed your question earlier in August.
Yes you'd be more than welcome to join us when you get here: this term we will be continuing a Fitness Club once a week at Tunstall library and also running Fitness courses at Christ Church in Tunstall and Sandyford Fire Station. The courses cost £20 this term and the Club is £1 a session. Times and updates at http://www.westmidlands.wea.org.uk/stokehealthupdates
As for line dancing I haven't heard of anything but our Tunstall group members might, there was a ballroom dancing class at Tunstall Floral Hall running a few months ago.
