last week in 5 days our estate had 6 different scrap metal vans going around- shouting out for unwanted items of metal,
on thursday 2 van came around with in an hour of each other.
there must be loads of unwanted stuff around and they will be getting good money for the stuff too for these people to come around .

one lot used the music from Steptoe and son to make people aware they were going around , but theres one that blows a trumpet sounding thing thats awful , and makes the dogs howl.

can any estate do better than 6 vans in one week?

In Tunstall they are round

In Tunstall they are round every day (including Sunday) sometimes twice a day.
Surely there can't be that much scrap left in Tunstall.
One other thing.
Why can't this scrap when weighed in not be liable to tax at source.
They are making a lot of money working and paying no tax.

I would hate to think what

I would hate to think what certain areas of Tunstall would look like if the Tatters didnt come around from time to time, such as the entrys or the patch of green at the top of Dunning St this has always got the odd TV or Microwave lurking in the bushes, if they can LEGALY make a bit of cash and keep the area clean at the same time go for it. Last month i had to dispose of a washing machine, the council wanted £10 to collect and dispose and there was a waiting time, we left it in our back garden and the next day the tatters called to ask if we wanted it removing, 2 happy people I saved £10 and they made some cash, i phoned the council and cancelled so they didnt have to trouble themselves to come and remove my rubbish. OK they may not be paying Tax but they are sort of doing a service to the area and wouldnt we all like to get away with non payment of the dreaded Tax if we could.
