Asda- why does Tunstall have 2 stores?

i might come across as jealous because of the lack of shops in the Burslem area, but why does Asda feel the need to have two stores so close by to one another?
the main one being in Tunstall and the other on Scotia road the former Netto store.
is this a form of land grabbing? to stop other stores having a store in and around the area.

if we can put a request in for other bigger shops to open up a store - i would like to see a Waitrose store.
as the closest ones are in Sandbach -in Cheshire or Newport in Shropshire.

I have to agree I too thought the same when I read that it was going to be an Asda, what is it 5 mins walk from the other store!

Tunsall may have two Asda, s shortly but what about Wolstanton that is now classed as an urban village (what ever one of them is) it wll shortly have two Asda ,s. Derth do not wish for a Waitrose. There is one at Heathside Congleton and it even manages to make Sainsburys look cheap.

In my hunt for houses in the

In my hunt for houses in the Tunstall area, I have seen that there is a shop for sale/auction in the Boulevard. It is presently a charity shop - Age Concern and the auction price is £40,000 What sort of shop does Tunstall need? Obviously not a grocery shop with the two ASDAs and the Market. I'm not thinking of bidding for the property, I was just wondering if there was a gap in the market so to speak. There are several commercial properties up for sale at the moment. What does the community need to replace them. Any suggestions?

Tilly, it sounds like you're

Tilly, it sounds like you're tempted Wink

These days you see too may shops open up, and I think to myself, why on earth did they open that shop up there, nobody will ever use it. Sure enough 6 months later it closes.

Firstly I would see what sort and volume of folks pass by that area, and are likely to call into a shop. Then consider the gap in the market. What the demand is in the area?

There’s definitely a gap for a Rolls Royce dealership, Internet gaming café or maybe a Piano tuning shop!

To be honest, I don’t shop or even go into Tunstall at all. I go to a supermarket that’s on my way to work, or near work (I don’t work in Tunstall.) I may occasionally nip directly to Argos. I guess for may other things I shop on line these days.

When I were a lad, we lived in Stoke and me Mum went shopping everyday, for fresh bread and something for tea etc. etc.

People have less time for shopping these days, supermarkets are taking over the world, so much stuff is available to be delivered to your door. Maybe I live in a bubble!

What about a nice old

What about a nice old fashioned teashop? Tablecloths, proper china,
cucumber sandwiches and gateaux/cup cakes. What do you think? Do you have 'ladies who lunch'?

Alternatively:-
Are there any decent restaurants in Tunstall, a lovely Italian might do well. Everybody likes Spaggy Bol and squid. There could be someone playing the piano and a lift home in a R.R. Silver Shadow if you've had too much vino.

Seriously though, where do people go for a really nice meal? We are coming up to Stoke in September and staying at the Borough Arms Hote, Newcastle. Where should we go for a lovely evening meal, any recommendations?

Tilly, For a nice meal I'd

Tilly,

For a nice meal I'd recommend Pastiche in Percy St, Hanley for something cheap and nice, Brunswicks in Newcastle for somewhere more expensive, and if money's not an issue go to the Hollybush in Stockton Brook.

ASDA needed new outlets in

ASDA needed new outlets in Europe to enable them to compeat on the same level as Tesco so they took over Netto who are a continental store. Providing instant stores in France, Germany and Holland Etc. They didnt need the ones in certain parts of England but in accordance with the Monopolies Commision alowing the take over they were not allowed to close down the English stores and make the people redundant for 12 months, we are of the oppinion that in 12 months time the Scotia store will be either all Electrics/Homeware or a George outlet. But thats just canteen gossip !!!.

A George and an

A George and an Electrics/Homeware store would be great in Scotia Road as this would create competition with Matalan, Argos and Next gossip from the canteen is often true lol.

Mini Asda are great. Love them you can pop in grab a few bits n bobs and be out in a few minutes without having to treck for half a mile through a super store.

Why the moan ? all great

Why the moan ? all great stores giving the public great bargains.
Tunstall has two , Wolstanton has two, so what? think your selves lucky.
As for Burslem you can write it off like the council have done.
Nobody lives there any way only rats and pigeons.

Dear Steve, please advise

Dear Steve, please advise where you believe "Heathside Congleton" is as there's not a Waitrose in Congleton
