I have a Kindle, go for the 3G model as it includes unlimited use and allows you to check web-based email / MyTunstall wherever you are!
You can also view pdfs as well as books in e-reader format. The Kindle is easy to use and is easy to read even in bright sunlight, and it weighs less than a paperback - worth getting a cover (which does add some weight but protects the screen etc)
The battery life is great and lasts upwards of a week depending on usage.
There are many millions of free books out there, especially the classics and anything out of print.
Any specific questions - feel free to ask.

I was staggered when John showed me MyTunstall on his Kindle. Considering it's a Greyscale screen (black & white) the site look really clear, I had no idea you could surf on it.
The book reading experience looked and felt really good. The only problem is that all e-readers are they aren't water proof. The amount of books I've christened after dozing off in the bath whilst have a good read.
Also it's worth mentioning with the kindle is that you can install the kindle reader software onto other devices such as Android phones (most common), I think the iPhone. So if your kindle does break, you can still access your books elsewhere, even on your computer.

Oh indeed real books are often cheaper and I still like to read them as well as books on the Kindle but Amazon do have special offers on from time to time and you can get newish titles cheaply.
I subscribe to the Kindle version of the Times and it is delivered to the Kindle via 3G by about 7am each morning.
E-Readers are not a complete replacement to the book - but certainly if you're going on holiday etc or long train journeys it's a nice thing to have.

Can't fault my Kindle, fantastic bit of kit. The reason ebooks are sometimes more costly than real books is that you pay vat on ebooks. but sometimes you can find books on Amazon for 50p.

I have a kindle and it is the best gadget that i have brought in a long time. It gives far more baggage allowance when travelling as i managed to read 10 books when we were last away that didn't take up any space in the suit case. It is very easy to use and books download within seconds. Font size is easily changed and it always saves the page for you when you fall asleep. The battery lasts for weeks so does not need charging too often depending on use. Everyone who i have shown it to has had one.......maybe i should be on commission!!!
My advice to anyone who is thinking of buying one is to stop thinking and do it.
if a kindle was to drop on
if a kindle was to drop on the floor- does it break or bounce?
is there a renting service anywhere- could do with "having a go of one". before buying .
like a test drive....
