Saturday night saw an escalation in the violence occurring along Ridge Road, Sandyford.

According to Sandyford and Goldenhill Residents Association, reports of a gang of youths were seen running after a local man along Ridge Road trying to attack him with a hammer, bat and piece of rubber tubing..

The Police response time was 23 minutes as they were waiting for a unit with a taser.

Tom Simpson, Vice Chair of the RA said.

They need to be stopped before someone gets hurt, or takes things into there own hands. What a waste of police resource on a Saturday night.

The incident comes after a long list of violent behaviour, behaviour which was discussed with Police Officers during the April public SAGE meeting, as residents of the area were running out of patience with the daily problems.

SAGE again are reporting more

SAGE again are reporting more savagery over in Ridge Road.

On Monday evening, a local woman was threatened outside her own home in Sandy Road, Sandyford by youths who live in nearby Ridge Road.

It was reported the aggressive teenage youths said they were going to beat the woman and her family up as well as going to put her windows through.

Local residents who are fed up with the ongoing antisocial behaviour started to turn against the youths with visual solidarity of strength after seeing one of the youths showing off a golf club.

Residents witnessed seven police vehicles in the street as well as an ambulance having to visit the scene after one resident collapsed and had to be treated by a paramedic.

One resident who lives in the area said this antisocial behaviour must end soon before people take matters into their own hands.

It was reported that on Wednesday, youths appeared in court on public order offences, which occured in the Sandyford area.

Police officers are continuing to visit local residents to make further statements and to show visual support to a community who has been suffering from antisocial activities for the past two years.

The Sentinel also ran a story

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "The problems started last year. The culprits know the police usually take half an hour to get here so whatever they're up to they clear off before the police arrive.

"They've been making nuisance of themselves. I've seen footballs kicked at cars and lads standing in the street intimidating motorists.

"They frighten women and cause problems for anyone who dares to drive through here.

"The quicker the police and council get rid of them the better."

Tom Simpson, secretary of Sandyford and Goldenhill Residents' Association, said: "This needs to be stopped before someone gets hurt.

"What a waste of police resources on a Saturday night.

"People have been reporting problems to the residents' association for years.

"I've been told youths jump in front of cars, blocking motorists and intimidating people.

"It's just a small group causing a lot of problems and they seem to get a kick out of upsetting people."

Fenton Magistrates yesterday

Fenton Magistrates yesterday gave two on the ring leaders of the group terrorizing the people of Ridge Road temporary asbo orders, expiring until July 19th.

Brothers Casey and Liam O'Brien of Ridge Road , have been banned from their ridge road and are now living with friends in fenton. The temporary Asbo also bans them from other parts of Sandyford, including Wignall Road, Shelford Road and Henshall Place and nearby play areas.

For over 18 months residents of the area have suffered threatening behaviour and damage to property.

The brothers who are accused of over 100 alleged incidents, feel it is unfair to be banned from certain areas of Sandyford.

The council is expected to go back to court to apply for a more permanent Abso order against the boys.
