Welcome to the Goldenhill and Sandyford Branch of The Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Members get together through the network of branches and clubs all over the country and overseas to participate in social, fundraising and welfare activities.

Alrewas Branch meets every 1st Tuesday of the month, at Goldenhill Workingmens club in ,Kidsgrove rd, Goldenhill.
Membership is open to everyone. If you have an interest in the objectives of the Legion and want to help and support for those who have served and their families, come and join us. We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.

Legion membership ensures that,

Remembrance is kept alive and that the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made are never forgotten.
The ex-Service community have a voice and that their concerns are brought to the public eye.
Becoming a member also provides the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities and events held locally, regionally and nationally throughout the year.

About The Royal British Legion
We provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.

Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.

Visit www.britishlegion.org.uk for details of our national initiatives.

Dave, you say in your post

Dave, you say in your post that the legion and remembrance isn't just about world war one & two, but also about the soldiers and their families either having recently been massively effected by the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Do the your Legion raise funds for soldiers through charities like help for heros and is there more that sites like MyTunstall should be doing?

Matt. The Royal British

Matt. The Royal British Leigon and Help for Heroes are two separate charities. With similar aims.

Matt, has steve says its two

Matt, has steve says its two organisations with similar aims that work to give the best support and welfare to troops injured in times of conflict. Whereas H4H tends to give aid to serving military personnel it is short term ie Headley Court and other rehab centres. The RBL helps in the more long term welfare needs. Both doing their best for the people that deserve the help they receive.

Steve ,yes I am an arrser lol.

The offer is still there,

The offer is still there, with the number of people coming to the site, it should be doing more for good causes.

Just out of interest, roughly, how many members have you got locally?

Matt, we raise funds mostly

Matt, we raise funds mostly through the Poppy appeal. Other fund raising events go on throughout the year at various locations in the County. This year there is a Legion race day September at Uttoxeter and an event at Lichfield Cathedral in July. We have a good number of members in the Goldenhill ,Sandyfordand Kidsgrove areas but as you can imagine some of the members are too infirm to attend meetings so on average we probably only get around 15-20 at branch meetings. None of us are getting any younger so we need younger members to join to help keep the good work going. I am one of the younger members at 53 lol.

As for the site doing enough, I think it is by the way of letting me post this information.

Best regards Dave
