A group of approx five traveller caravans/campervans have now set up temporary camp across the road from the empty Blue Planet complex on Lowlands Road.

The group who arrived this morning are parked on Newcastle-Borough-Council land, which will make moving them on easier as the council won't need to track down and wait for the land owner to go through the courts to move them on.

Newcastle-Borough-Council are aware of the encampment and will be starting proceedings with some urgency.

Newcastle BC's policy is as follows

No, the Council must:

  • show that the Travellers are on the land without consent;
  • make enquiries regarding the general health, welfare and children's education;
  • ensure that the Human Rights Acts 1998 has been fully complied with;
  • follow a set procedure in terms of proving ownership of land and details of the illegal encampment that will enable them to
  • successfully obtain the necessary authority from the Courts to order the Travellers to leave the site.

How long will it take for the Travellers to be removed?
This will depend upon the circumstances of each individual case. The Council will need to take account of the issues outlined above as well as how soon they can obtain a Court hearing date. This will normally take at least one to two weeks.

I don't really think that's going to happen. Glad to see the little barrier kept them out though, it's really done the trick.

Went past last night and

Went past last night and looked like they were ready to go (6.45pm)

Went back past at 10pm - all gone Smile

This morning - the only evidence is about 5-6 black bin liners tied up against the hedge - not too bad considering what has been left before.

Blimey, almost makes you want to invite them back.

It's nice to know that some families do have respect for their surroundings.

Last Monday on our way back

Last Monday on our way back from a trip to York (stunning place) on the train I noticed the massive advertisement on the Blue Planet regarding letting it; its a great pitch for any potential business people passing on the train to see - only one problem.......yes a line of caravans next to it!

Hey Rich I've been past

Hey Rich

I've been past tonight on my bike tonight. As I'm not quite ready to go on the road yet, I made my cycling buddy ride with me down the pavement. Only we couldn't cycle past as there was that much crap/caravans on the pavements you just couldn't get past, so rode on the grass verge right next to the pavement.

It looked like a shit heap, and is causing a major obstruction. I'm hoping the council do a hell of a lot more than they are doing to permanently get rid of them.

Has the whole of Tunstall

Has the whole of Tunstall become a camping ground for these people?
Well they know that they are untouchable and can leave their rubbish for us to pay for the clean up.
When will someone take charge and make them clean up after them.
They cannot be allowed to keep taking the mick.
