Superfast Broadband
Today Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced Staffordshire is to receive £7.44million to improve superfast broadband coverage
This investment will ensure that the UK has the best superfast broadband network in Europe by 2015, with 90 per cent of homes and businesses having access to superfast broadband and for everyone in the UK to have access to at least 2Mbps.
In England each county council or local enterprise partnership will lead broadband roll-out in their area, draw up an effective delivery plan, and match the Government’s investment with European, their own or private funds.
Mr Hunt urged those suffering the frustration of slow internet connections to “make it clear to your local elected representatives that you expect them to do what is needed to access this investment and to deliver broadband to your community.”

Exciting stuff. I expect most
Exciting stuff. I expect most people don't use 2Mb now, apart from the few that watch streaming video.
Of course all this could change by 2015 and beyond, we'll all be streaming 'Animals do the silliest things' from YouTube in HD. Very cultural!
High speed internet is not
High speed internet is not just about all those awesome youtube clips, it makes using the simply more of a pleasure and more usefully an accessible.
and if its a pleasure it will be used more, to look up simple information, like bus time, road conditions opening hours, and commenting on mytunstall.
This funding is obviously aimed more at rural residents who may need to rely on 3g dongle (which are really not the best), but it would be a shame if small pockets like Bankeyfields were left behind the rest of the City.
So what have you to lose in putting your case to Council?
