Blue Planet “The Alternative”

Whenever I look down towards Chatterley Valley and see the Blue Planet Warehouse I think to myself what a waste of money surely there has got to be an alternative use for this building other than a distribution warehouse. Surely there must be something that can be done with this building that could benefit everyone in the community young and old then I had this idea.

Sports and Adventure Centre offering a wide range of sports, tennis, squash, badminton, tranpolining, netball, basketball, gym, indoor climbing wall and a range of other indoor activities. Outside I would have five aside all weather football pitches, archery, cricket nets and a driving range.

You could also make use of Westport Lake and Bathpool using them for water sports, sailing canoeing and kayaking you could also have designated cycle trails and adventure walks incorporating both lakes. At Bathpool there would be the use of the ski centre and the possibility of a few zip wires. During the school holidays there could be kids clubs and activities giving the kids an alternative to roaming the streets.

think it sounds a great idea

think it sounds a great idea and if you have some activities for teenagers as well it could possibly save some of the park hassles that the younger kids have to put up with. Skateboard ramps, bike jumps we could have a great list of activities.

designated cycle tracks also sounds a great idea, know of some people (kids and adults who have gone back to their 2nd (or 3rd) childhoods that would also use them! (they will know who I mean!)

ITS A CORPORATE VENTURE. When

ITS A CORPORATE VENTURE.

When it does move it will make more money in an hour than a few community projects would make in a month of Sundays. Lets face it community projects are hardly a strong point around here we can not even keep attendances up at the ex local swimming pool.

Yes Steve you are quite right

Yes Steve you are quite right and I fully understand what you are saying it was just a thought that I had whilst walking the dog day dreaming as you do. It is a crying shame that a building of that size has stood empty for as long as it has I am sure the land could have been put to much better use than it has. Personally I would like to have seen another housing estate or a retirement village for the elderly built on the site.

I agree with you bj, when

I agree with you bj, when ever we go past my husband always comments on the fact that it would be a great sport/leisure complex, we travel down to Northants during the bowls season and they have a place just like you mentioned in Daventry it also has a swimming complex and does involve corporate days for seminars/lectures I think it used to be run on a 50/50 basis by the sports council and a buisness co-operative.

Wat eva....To coin a phrase.

Wat eva....To coin a phrase. It's there, its a hang-over from the boom days. I am sure that the owners are more worried about their investment going up in smoke than the community and their want's for " something nice "!
Don't look at it, because unless your going to be able to change the way things are for this place, stop your worry about it, It is what it is, and it will be what it will be. You will be sorry when some one does move into there and you have a huge increase in lorries and traffic, and then you can write all about that on here then BJ-BJ.....
