Friends of Bathpool park out raged at the illegal felling of trees

On Saturday I took the kids for a walk in the morning to Bath Pool park. So parking up at the acre's nook car park I walked them into the park with the intention of feeding the ducks, playing in the park and heading back again.

To make a change I opted to take the scenic route rather than head under the bridge, so where a break in the new barbed wire fencing (seems a little bit dangerous when it's so close to the path, especially for kids who are eye leve with it) we headed onto the grass path into the woods.

It didn't take long for the noise of the chain saws reach us, and as we breached the top of the hill, we came across a once wooded area with a JCB digger and two blokes chain sawing trees.

I wasn't happy at this point but made a mental note to do some checking.

As we came back into the woods I honestly couldn't believe the devastation caused to part of the wood where weeks before I'd ridden my bike.

What was once a lovely and preserved wood looked more like a mud slide had come down clearing another huge path in the woods.

One walker thought it could be dieses control, but also said it could be out of spite. I've heard of some disagreements going on, but don't really know what's going on.

The best thing to do in a situation like this is to ask the Lord Mayor of Kidsgrove, Councillor Kyle Robinson via twitter and uploaded a few pictures.

Kyle came back really quickly and forwarded on my queries to Margaret Astle, Kidsgrove Councillor and chair of Friends of Bathpool Park group, who had this to say on Kidsgrove.info. To sum up, she was applled and disgusted to at the scenes of devastation.

Now this is where you've got to be greatful it happened on Newcastle Under Lymes Councils watch as they've slapped a order on the trees to stop them from being cleared by the lands owner A J Green and Sons abattoir.

The Sentinel says today

Newcastle Borough Council has now imposed a tree preservation order to prevent any further felling after being contacted by a concerned member of the public.

Although the land is privately owned, officers at the authority judged that the removal of the trees was affecting the public's enjoyment of the park.

A J Green and Sons, which runs an abattoir at Ravenscliffe House Farm, owns around 14 acres of land at the park, near the Peacock Hay Road entrance.

In the coming weeks the Friends of Bath Pool Park group will be calling a emergency meeting in which they've asked for not just people from Kidsgrove to attend but all that use this wonderful nature area, and help to keep it preserved. If you're interested please let me know below and when the time come's I'll post the details on here.

As always I'd be interested to hear your thoughts

I've just taken some pictures

I've just taken some pictures of the logging area and to give you an idea, I've created these two wrap around photos.

This is the scene from the top of hill looking upon a once wooded area

Just week's ago this was a popular route for mountain bikers and dog walkers, now it's just a bloody mess.

I hope it has nothing to do

I hope it has nothing to do with us bringing to light the activities that go on in the area. Looking at the pictures you can see the Road that has been cut through the trees. Someone, somewhere, knows about this and I dont just mean the owner of the land, this was done with a plan in mind to possibly make a road up to the farm shop without planning permision perhaps. The trouble is what is done now can not be undone and this is a crying shame.

We were astounded to find

We were astounded to find that the waymarked footpath past this area has now been cut off completely by barbed wire fencing. This must be an unlawful action. I appreciate it may be private land but there is still a right of way that has existed for many years.

We had a new dog, two years

We had a new dog, two years ago now, and for all these years, my mother and I have walked the dog around bathpool every weeknight and some weekends.

We were absolutely shocked when we saw that fenses had been errected at the bottom end of bathpool, with barbed wire positioned at the top and bottom. What about childrens safety! somebody one day will hurt them selves, i thought it was illegal to put up barbed wire in public places under 6 foot?!. Neither fellow walkers or ourseleves could understand why these had been put up. To then see day by day more and more tree's being cut down and parts of the area being leveled off is absolutely disgusting, why has nothing been done to stop them? why has it come to this after all these years?

It astounded me last night to be walking our usual route to find, the same type of fencing as at the bottom end of bathpool, has now been errected where the trees have been felled. No warnings to say no access, no signs anywhere, it stopped us dead in our tracks and it goes right up to Greens feild boundry. I am a local resisdent, i read the sentinel, advertiser and Kidsgrove news and nothing has been mentioned, no warnings of this.

Action needs to be taken quickly to stop anymore damage to our local park. Soon we will not be able to access the woodland side!
