Ceramics, BBC4

Did anyone watch the CERAMICS program on BBC4 @ 9.00 p.m. Monday 17th October?

It went through just how great the pottery industry in Stoke on Trent was, right through to the downfall of our pottery industry. Work being sent abroad for cheaper labour. (At what cost to the people of Stoke on Trent and their communities)

The skills of the workers in the factories. Local shots of Etruria and the clay used.

Wedgewood and Spode both both famous for there skills and developments. Examples of pottery from the 1700's up to present times.

Sad to say it also showed the present state of Stoke on Trent...rows of bricked up terraced houses and derelicts factories.

Hope they repeat the program in the future, this would be great for local schools to watch as part of their local history.

What a great documentary on

What a great documentary on the history of the pottery industry this should be shown in all the schools in the potteries local history at its best. Only one down side was all the footage of Stoke as it is today some parts looked like scenes from the blitz. I hope that the people who were responsible for ripping the heart and soul out of the potteries hang their heads in shame.

Watched it, loved it. It was fascinating to see the footage from Staffordshire Film Archive and an odd beauty in the abandoned factories. Emma Bridgewater is a credit to the city.
