Adding life to your photos Part 1 - iPhone App - ColorSplash
Have you ever taken a photo and thought it's ok but a little bit of life needs adding to it, something to make it stand out.
I've recently joined a group on Flickr the photo uploading service called Staffordshire Photographers & Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, and being a amateur it's been a really eye opener. The photos some of the people posting on there are just amazing. Some have effects applied, some don't. But as part of the learning process it makes you think what can I do next.
After talking to a local photographer recently about some of the stuff he's done on his iphone I started to investiagte some of the apps he was using to touch up and apply different effects to his photos.
In the first Adding life to your photos I'm going show you a app I've found called ColorSplash (cheers MarkyMark)

Requirements:
Simple Step by Step Guide to bringing the colours out of your photo.
- Open Colour Splash

- Next you load a picture from your library of photos on your phone.
This will automatically turn the image into a grayscale image
- By painting with your finger you can apply colour to your picture. Touching the Gray icon and painting, returns that part of your picture back to gray giving you that fine degree of control.

- Zooming in you can carefully remove applied colour so only the desired colours remains

- It's sometimes easier to overpaint big areas, and then remove the colour later.

- In this image I've decided I only want to keep the green moss colour and remove the rest. ColourSplash allows you to apply, remove and zoom in and out very easily to create quick and fun pictures, reanimating old or new pictures and giving them life of their own.
This took about a minute and as you can see in parts it's a bit hurried, but well worth a try.

I've got about another 4 of these tutorials lined up, and they aren't all iPhone based. Hope they give people inspiration.

To do it in photoshop:
1.I'd create two layers from the one photo.
2. Make the lower layer grayscale.
3. Apply a mask to the top layer
4. Selecting the mask, and picking white, I'd fill the mask layer
5. Selecting black I'd then use the paint brush to reveal the colour layer where needed.
