There's life in the high street yet. Tunstall swaps Boots for Poundland.
There is nothing worse than shops standing empty for a long time, slowly becoming more and more derelict. All you have to do is look further up the road at the state the select shop to know what I mean.
So when Boots announced they were moving out of the town centre to the outskirts of town, there were big fears that this really would be a massive blow for the town.
It's not the fact that the town has lost a drugs store, the town lost an extra reason to bring people into the centre, which has and effect on other stores. Which is why I'm happy to have poundland land in town. People will shop there, and hopefully whilst there, shop in the other stores and the market.
Ok, it's not the most profile shop, but would a Marks and Spencers really suit our town in these economic depressed times?

im glad that the building
im glad that the building will not just be another empty shop in tunstall and i will go & shop there , but i would like to see different shops opening.
i nipped into Tunstall in the week and the store does look clean and tidy, i also noticed that the Shelter charity shop will be opening on Sundays too.
either the store isnt raising enough money over the 6 days or its really busy and needs to open the 7th day.
Popped into Poundland
Popped into Poundland tonight, seems ok, was busy but didn't have too wait to long to get through the tills which is a positive sign, chirpy staff said it had been busy all day which is good news.
On the subject of new shops opening - Home Bargains at Freeport is also now open - again busy but not long to get through the tills
It's all about the shops that
It's all about the shops that can attract the most footfall, which will benefit the town centre the most.
I think like Dereth says the more variety and perhaps novelty (every day of the year). We've got some shops like this in town already such as House 2 Home, Cards 4 U, a couple of premium eastern clothing shops and so on, it just needs a few more, and a few more bigger brands.
