New £1,000,000 Swimming Pool at Dimensions
I was very surprised today to read that the council want to invest of £1m in a new swimming facility at Dimensions.
As part of the group who wanted to take over Tunstall pool as a community run facility I cannot see how they can do this without having the same issues with funding as they had with the Tunstall and Shelton pool facilities.
I have recently found out that the council have taken on James Brindley with a running cost of some £250,000.
Was the closure of Tunstall pool part of a bigger plan, the council knew they had to take over this facility and had to find this money from somewhere.
Even if this new facility is cheaper to run than Tunstall pool was, I find it difficult to believe that the investment will benefit the local community as the prices for using the facility will have to be far greater in order to make the facility break even.

Why does this not supprise
Why does this not supprise me, it is typical of our council keeping the people in the dark then springing it on us at a time when they think we are to involved in other things to either moan or care, Today, Tomorrow and Monday we are all doing other things to bother about council issues so by the time Tuesday arrives it will be old news and not worth reporting again I for one am sick and fed up with how they do this.
Richard, and all the other supporters of the Tunstall pool campain I feel for you, it makes your work over the past months look like a waste of time and effort I also hope that when Santa calls on our beloved council to night all he leaves them is Reindeer Poo under the tree because all they dish out to us (the people of S on T) is a lode of old S**T. Merry Christmas Councilors one and alll and I hope your balls all fall off (your Tree that is ).
As I have said many times
As I have said many times over the closure of Tunstall and Shelton pools, the people of Tunstall have been mislead.
The facts are out there but have been ignored.
Pervez Meredith, Hibbs as well as officers of the council were prepared to dish out £100,000 a year to Choudry's bank account.
Now tell me that these crooks did not have the money to keep these two pools open.
They suckered the people of Tunstall and Shelton with their misleading sob story's.
Hows about the Police getting off their backsides and sorting this den out, and I don't mean like the last time.
No "common purpose" Officer leading the investigation, as this looks bad to anyone on the outside.
W/M if any of this band want to sue me give them my address.
Sue dont think this will go
Sue dont think this will go away so easily, well maybe if we let it. The proposal is part if budget consultation let your local councillor know and email budget2012@stoke.gov.uk what you think about their balls.
Richard i did wonder if it came out in discussions, where council under any duty to inform you of these plans. Because had your work paid of and Tunstall pool had reopened a New pool oprning would had impact on your business plan.
it stinks £500,000 council has available how much more did tunstall pool need to finish the refurb?
Sorry richard but my consultation reply was scrape demolishing dimensions and give money to your team.

We often hear of insider
We often hear of insider trading and it appears to me that the S-O-T council are peeing (excuse the expression) in one another's pockets.
I am sure that £1,000,000 can be spent more on the regeneration of our city - new homes etc., rather than boosting the financial pockets of council members.
If this money goes the same way as the regeneration millions, then we won't see any change in Dimensions but there will be a few bank balances boosted by the costs of consultation - need I say any more....

This Labour administration
This Labour administration knew damn well what they were doing right from the word go over the pools.
The secret deals with Choudry had already been made and were in play.
The people responsible and I include the two officers of the council that would have had to know, Paul Hackney for the legal side, and Paul Simpson (the Civics own comedy duo until the latter jumped ship)the head of finance.
They knew about it when the people of Tunstall, and Shelton were protesting but did not say a word.
Pervez even had the Gaul to blame the coalition along with our impotent MP Walley.
The people of Tunstall should be angry at being taken for mugs by these ********.
If they had not been exposed they would have gone ahead with their plans and Dimensions would have come under the axe next.
The people responsible (Pervez, Meredith and Ibbs) should never be able to hold office again and the other two should be made to apologize and resign.
The main Issue I have with
The main Issue I have with this new swimming facility is that during our last few weeks in building a robust business plan for Tunstall Pool we had the Council re-look at the figures for the facility during the last year. The Councils initial figures showed approximately 78,000 sessions during that year. However, the accounts did not show this, after the accountant rechecked the figures they came back with "Sorry the figures were closer to 22,000 sessions", this made the pool unsustainable as a private entity. We asked why this huge difference and were informed that the original figures included free swimming and spectators at swimming lessons.
I would ask the Council that if they are going to open this new facility at a cost of £500,000 to the tax payer, "How are they going to make it pay for itself in both the short and long term". We know there are more cuts this year and then again next year so subsidised swimming is out of the question for the near future.
If the council has this money to invest then refurbish and re-open the Shelton and Tunstall facilities. This would give the people two facilities for the price of one and allow both able bodied and the disabled to get swimming again.
From the figures I have obtained about James Brindley Sports Complex there appears to be very little difference in the running costs of old and new facilities. Therefore, there is no benefit in building a new facility, the only people who will benefit are the builders.
I would ask "Do we need a new building at a cost of £500,000 and where is the other £500,000 going to come from?"
Looks like mo chaudry will
Looks like mo chaudry will fund the other £500,000 so long as the council close the splash pool

Ian, looks like you have
Ian, looks like you have predicted what will happen.
The Sentinel report today speaks volumes of this load of crooks.
Someones head should roll, but whats the betting nothing happens.
As I said at the start, the people of Tunstall and Shelton have been misslead by all those involved in this little game to make Choudry richer while those in Tunstall and Shelton are poorer.
