Waste Management Failure
I am absolutely astounded at the poor service provided by the council in relation to emptying waste bins on the Greenfields estate following the Christmas and New Year period.
Couple this with the proposed recycling changes to the bins we use and their failure to actually empty the blue bins which has now become the main bin for cardboard, plastic and metal (tins) on the allocated collection day leaves me wondering how they have totally mismanaged their waste collection planning.
I contacted the council on the 6th January asking about the failure in service and was told that they held an annual review for collections and felt they had covered the service to the best of their ability.
I like everyone else put brown, blue and newspaper bins out for collection on the 10th January. Low and behold they collected and emptied the brown bin which is now limited in it's use. The blue bin which is our main recycling bin was not emptied almost 3 weeks after its last collection. I contacted the council office this morning and was given the excuse that a vehicle had broken down hence the failure. Really!! Don't insult peoples intelligence. I was assured that we would receive collections today 11th January. As I type 15:20 we all still wait. Normally 16:00 is the time that the bin wagons knock off so a collection today will not happen. My concern is now will the next collection be in two weeks time on the next scheduled collection date? I am awaiting a call from a member of the management team based in Cromer Road Northwood. I will update residents with their response.

Hi Paul, firstly welcome to
Hi Paul, firstly welcome to the site.
There has been a lot of head shaking over the past month over this policy switch at such a crucial moment and the fact that bins can go unemptied for nearly a month (A Christmas month to boot, when people produce much more waste from extra cooking to wrapping) http://mytunstall.co.uk/11/12/whats-blue-and-brown-bins-bankey-fields-forum
But if the council think this is acceptable, then it goes to show you that they just don't live in the real world. Council rebate anyone? They're quick enough to fine or charge us extra.....
Paul, can you grab a picture
Paul, can you grab a picture of your bins and email it to matt@mytunstall.co.uk
I can certainly get a picture
I can certainly get a picture of my bins but I think more effective pictures would be of the roads around the Greenfields estate where a sea of blue bins left on pavements shows the greater impact. In my initial correspondence to our wonderful council I stated that due to less collections would we all be entitled to a rebate? I didn't get a response to that question strangely enough. Likewise to my further comment that surely the next saving around bin collections that the council could make is for residents to actually load and tip the bins into the back of the wagon because at present that's the only thing we don't do.
As an Operations Manager myself I find it hard to believe that the council could not offer a better solution when planning for the Xmas period. As they stated to me they do an annual review. I would say their management team need to be reviewed if they can't get it right 12 months down the line.

Update...........I have received a call from a member of the management team at the Waste Management Department of the Council. She has assured me that the blue bins on the Greenfields estate will be emptied tomorrow 12/01/12 as a priority.
Sorry to bore you with this but action needed to be taken.

Finally the bins were emptied
Finally the bins were emptied on the Greenfields estate this morning as advised yesterday. After many emails and phone calls we got there in the end.
I am now awaiting a call from the Head of Waste Management to discuss why they have failed us this year and to find out how they are planning to avoid this scenario going forward. Bearing in mind that there will be extra Bank Holidays as well as the Xmas period to cover to work around.
