THE countdown has begun to the biggest change in North Staffordshire emergency hospital care for nearly 50 years.
In exactly a month, the area waves goodbye to its cramped and crumbling A&E unit, which will then be boarded up ready for the bulldozers to move in.
Replacing it will be Britain's most state-of-the-art casualty department, hailed as the jewel in the crown in the £400 million superhospital makeover of the City General site in Hartshill, opening 15th March.

Rach not sure where the new one will be, is there anyway you can get a postcode from work. Although saying that, you can't really miss it. Love the stripes. I just don't want in that time of need to be circling hartshill.

The best access for the unit will be off Hilton rd. The A34 access has been deemed for ambulance only, although that may change.

Got to say that map is crap.
Got to say that map is crap. A load of instructions assuming people know street names around there.
A lot of folk will know the A34 but it's not connected on that map.
im going to have to do a dry run.
Really really grateful to
Really really grateful to Rach for posting this article, and also looking after our eldest.
Our little girl took a nasty tumble from the top of the stairs.
The best way for me to describe its location is if you take the top entrance ( any one visiting the old maternity will know the entrance)
As soon as you enter the hospital from the hartshill side turn left.
Take £2 as well, and expect a unusually designed car park designed supposedly for people who ate stressed & in a hurry.
