Next week's Staffordshire Police strategy meeting will discuss a proposal to close Tunstall Police Station
Starts
During Staffordshire Police's audit meeting to be held next week on the 8th Feb, the board will discuss proposals to close several police stations within the authority.
Previously proposals talked about losing Burslem Police station and bring the command structure to Tunstall, however according to the Sentinel this is no longer the case, and the plan is to now look at closing Tunstall Police Station.
Under the "Capital Financing Proposals 2012/13" section of the agenda document page 22 the following statement highlights which stations are to be culled as part of a £10million saving scheme for 2012/2013.
The total estimated income expected relating to the disposal of assets for 2012/13 is £10.935m and includes potential receipts for the sale of Blythe Bridge, Cheslyn Hay, Hednesford, Kidsgrove, Newcastle, Stone, Tunstall, 8 Hearn Court, Hixon, 50% of the sale receipts for Cannock Road HQ site and Lichfield Police Station.
As Tunstall and surrounding areas have seen a increase in Anti Social Behaviour, the area fast becoming murder capital of Stoke-on-Trent many people are going to be very worried about police response times and their capacity to act.
Outposts in places such as Tunstall Market, Sandyford Fire Station could be away of keeping Police presense local and visible.
I'd love to hear your thoughts before the 8th so they can be passed across at the meeting.

Councillor Joy Garner, who
Councillor Joy Garner, who sits on the Police Authority board (need to check the official title when I get back to the PC later) has been in touch. She's tracked down the chief super to get his take on this.
The impression given was that station won't close. Seems like there may be a error in the document, or a partial down sizing of Tunstall Police station.
Is the writing on the wall for Police station? Will there be a will they won't they situation we saw with closure of Tunstall Pool where a reprieve was won only for the announcement 11 months later that it would shut.
Finally, who out there think the police can operate out of just Burslem police station if the situation does arrive where Tunstall police station is closed?
W/M cannot believe a word
W/M cannot believe a word this woman says, as she is part of a gestapo type council that have cut, shut, and closed services all over the city, hitting the old, sick, and disabled.
As for closing the Police Station well this information was given to me twelve months ago by a serving councilor, and the reason for the closure.
The next to go will be the Library or would be if it were not for the fact of an Act of Parliament that has slipped by our so called head of legal services Paul Hackney (details can be found on the potteries community federation web site) who is paid a phenomenal sum for his so called expertise.
The joke is Garners gang and the police expect the tax-payer to cough up more money this year for sub standard services.
Three murders and it has no effect on Policing the area.
Any other area and there would be uproar over peoples safety yet the silence is deafening from both these wastes of space.
Statement from Director of
Statement from Director of resources at Staffordshire Police - Graham Liddiard who said
“I wanted to take this opportunity to reassure local people that Staffordshire Police is absolutely committed to maintaining accessible and visible policing services in Tunstall.
“Given the unprecedented financial challenge we face, it is essential that we continue to review how we use our buildings - particularly those that are under-utilised or expensive to maintain – to make sure we deliver the best possible, value for money services for local people.
“Crucially, we will not sell or move neighbourhood teams out of any buildings until suitable alternative accommodation has been found in the heart of the communities we serve.
“Whilst the building at Tunstall is indeed on our review list, no decision has yet been taken by Staffordshire Police Authority regarding its future.
“Both the force and the Authority are absolutely committed to meaningful consultation with the local community, its representatives and other key stakeholders before any such decision is made. This is likely to take some time.”
I wonder if this
I wonder if this "consultation" will be City Council style consultation ?
We talk you do as you have planned previously and s** the people.
Will you allow me to remove my payment to the police out of my poll tax when you shut the station?
Starting with this Aprils rise?
I am glad the police havd
I am glad the police havd said Tunstall police stn is not closing. We need the police stn kept open to deal with people like Terrys ASBO grandson.
Please read the following
Please read the following response from Tom Simpson from SAGE (Sandyford and Goldenhill) who is aware more than most how vital it is to have a police presense around or quick to respond, after areas around Ridge Road have a few years of hell from one or two bad families in the area.
