Officers will be on hand to offer road safety advice and support at the launch of a new motorbike shop in Stoke-on-Trent this week.

Staffordshire Triumph (formerly BS Bikes) will be opening its new premises on High Street, Tunstall, from 6.30pm on Thursday 15 March. It will be the largest Triumph dealer in Europe following the move from premises in Sandyford.

The shop’s owners have invited Staffordshire Police to attend the event and help raise road safety awareness.

Officers from the force’s Road Policing Team will be attending the launch, together with neighbourhood officers who patrol the Tunstall area.

Last month details were announced of this year’s free BikeSafe events, and officers at Thursday’s event will be promoting these.

Six events will be held across Staffordshire between now and June and include one-to-one riding assessments with a police motorcyclist and, for the first time, a special ladies’ day.

The BikeSafe initiative is a national programme run by a number of police forces throughout the UK. As part of its commitment to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the road, Staffordshire Police continues to support this initiative and is one of the only forces in the country that doesn’t charge for this facility.

BikeSafe was initially designed to bridge the gap between passing a full motorcycle test and further training to advance standard. It was developed as a direct response to the nationally high number of fatal and serious injury collisions involving motorcyclists.

PC Glyn Talbot, neighbourhood officer for the Tunstall area, said: “Thursday’s launch event is a great opportunity for us to engage with members of the public, especially those who are biking enthusiasts.

“Police officers who are part of the force’s Road Policing Team, and patrol Staffordshire on bikes, will be on hand to talk to people about safety on the roads.

“I would encourage people to take up this opportunity to meet with biking experts.”

The BikeSafe diary of events is as follows:

  • Saturday 31 March - Tamworth Yamaha, Riverside Estate, Fazeley, Tamworth
