Tunstall Park ushers in first new baby birds of 2012 with 8 baby coots

view counter

Mr & Mrs Coot were proudly showing off thier new babies on Tunstall Park lake today.

Dad Coot was bravely taking bread from passing long legs and feeding it onto his family as Mum was keeping a close eye on the eight babies whilst also diving down to the bottom for further food.

The chicks should hopefully be given more shelter from preditors  and humans as it looks like they are sticking close to the island on Tunstall Park lake.

More good news for the Tunstall Park is that Mummy swan isn't leaving the island as she's sitting on a clutch of eggs.

So let's make it more fun... how many signets will hatch? I'm going for 5

Congratulations to all proud parents.

fingers crossed they all

fingers crossed they all survive,

yesterday while i was mucking out our hen/duck garden area , i and another neighbour had to  shout at  8 lads  who came down to the pond from the Grange council estate  they were aged  between 8 and 13 ish,

the gang were  acting out of the ordinary,so i  stood to just watch them.

the neighbourhood  have a pair of geese and  2 pairs of ducks on the  Grange pond -

as the boys  shouted and  ran towards the  pond  one of the boys  shouted  to the others  "lets kill the geese". thats  when i shouted to them to leave the geese and ducks alone and if anything happened to them,  we would know who  to send the police  too,   a neighbour also  witnessed this  ,and told them to clear off .

yes we got a mouth full of abusive language ,but  the gang did  move on .
