Pick-a-lane any lane Reginald Mitchell Way roundabout finally gets some common sense applied.
Over the past month work crews have been busily working away putting traffic lights installing new traffic lights on the Reginald Mitchell Way and Chattered Road roundabout.
One of the improvements I was happy to see was that the lanes for the roundabout have been altered.
The Bankeyfields Residents Association, have been championing safer conditions on Reginald Mitchell Way for nearly 10 years, with most complaints going on death ears.
However after making a case to both local councillors, and our local Chief Inspector Adrian Roberts one of our requests, to do something about the incredibly poor lane discipline on the roundabout by the Genesis Centre. Be this feed in white lines on the road so drivers use the three lanes, rather than treat the roundabout as a double lane, or in other cases single lane road.
The roundabout has been the start of many road rage incidents which then carry on up Reginald Mitchell Way after one driver is cut up by another.
The new lane markings now have the left hand lane, for left only down Chatterley Road towards the new Industrial Estate, Genesis, Bathpool and the Blue Planet. Middle and right hand lanes will now have no excuses for getting in each others way.
Thanks to all those that made this happen.

Matt
It's just a shame some drivers haven't noticed the changes yet. My husband has spotted a number of drivers this week who still get in the inside lane (the new left turn only lane) and go straight on up the bank. It should be better now somebody has put hatched markings where the inside lane of the roundabout used to flow to show that it's not a lane anymore.
It's just a shame they've put a crossing down there, when we could really do with one just above or just below the Wickes roundabout.
Never mind.

Hi Red Girl
I know, when I first heard they were putting lights in for a moment I believed we'd finally got through to the Transport folk, in their lofty towners. Sadly for us that's not the case.
The new lights will be used, but not very often, the need for these in my opinion aren't as great as the need for a crossing higher up.
According to our local
According to our local councilor the lights/crossing and all other alterations in the area of Chatterley Rd ie Bus stops, Crosings/lights are for the people to use when going into work at the units down there. Where these people are comming from or going to is a mistery to me as far as I am aware only one of the units is taken and I would have thought the staff would travel by car as is the norm. I have been told there is an "interest" in the Blue Planet so perhaps it is all being done to sell that place, the biggest white (or in this case blue) elephant in Tunstall.
well 4 cars last night still
well 4 cars last night still can't use the new layout, mind you can't remember seeing any "new road layout" signs that have gone up either!
I used this for the first
I used this for the first time on Tuesday (I don't get out much) and did find it a little confusing when approaching.
Why? Because I hate left lane only signs on the tarmac floor, especially when you're not local.
Considering the businesses on this road such as Churchill's who attract drivers from all over the continent they aren't going to see the left only lane sign until it's way to late.
