BE AWARE OF COMPUTER SCAMS CLOSE TO HOME

I have received a phone call tonight from a friend warning about a SCAM call she received from someone who  reportedly working for Microsoft.

The caller was reporting that Microsoft had received too many error report messages from the households computer. He needed to log on to her computer to sort out the problem. Insisting that if the problem was not sorted out then Microsoft would cancel the licence agreement and the householder would be unable to use the computer. He was very persistent about accessing her computer.  The householder replied that she had loaned her laptop to her son and it was due to be returned in a couple of days time so could she have a contact number to call when it was returned.  The caller would not give a contact number but was very persistent trying to get the householder to log on for him to access the computer.  She asked again for contact details and the caller eventually hung up.  1471 revealed the phone number was withheld.

On Friday morning I also had a phone call from someone reportedly calling from Microsoft.  A woman with a foreign accent called;  it sounded like a call centre because there was lots of background voices.  I hung up, again the number was withheld.

Remember that if they had managed to get access to the computers they could have accessed all the information sorted on them.
