Paralympic Flame Celebration
Saturday 25 August, 10am to 4pm
Trentham Lake Boathouse, Trentham Estate
Trentham Watersports Association are hosting a Flame Celebration Disability Sports event where the arrival of the Paralympic Flame will be paddled down the Trentham Lake by World champion canoeist Dan Hopwood as part of the Paralympic Torch Relay. Up to 120 disabled people will take part in various activities throughout the day including outrigger canoeing, bell boat paddling, Boccia, dodgeball football, cheerleading and boxing. The celebrations will continue over a BBQ lunch where participants will be able to watch a Dancing for the Games performance and end with a closing ceremony as the Paralympic Flame departs the Boat House back across the Lake. Mitchell Arts Centre
Mow Cop Players are proud to present... Calendar Girls following the real-life story of a group of WI ladies who strip off to raise money for charity. This production is based on the Miramax motion picture by Juliette Towhidi and Tim Firth. Tickets £12 for adults, £10 concessions with all profits going raise money for cancer charities. Spitfire Day
Saturday 8 September
The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery
This special event has been organised to support the Spitfire Restoration Fund. See a flypast by a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and watch demonstrations from the Air, Navy and Sea cadets. The celebrated historian Guy de la Bedoyere from Time Team will also be presenting a lecture in the museum theatre entitled 'Digging up the Air War', discussing the history of downed aircraft and the personal histories of the pilots. Victoria Hall
With performances by the Ceramic City Choir, Florence Miners Band and special guests, the concert will tell the story of how a village in the Czech Republic destroyed by the Nazis was rebuilt with help from Sir Barnett Stross and the working people of Stoke-on-Trent who launched the Lidice Shall Live campaign at the Victoria Hall 70 years ago. ‘Best of British’ Model Making Competition

The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery
Meir Model Club and North Staffs Model Club will be staging an exhibition of model making as part of The Potteries Museum’s Spitfire Day. The exhibition will showcase the work of members, demonstrating some of the skills used to produce their work. There will also be a ‘Best of British’ competition open to members of the public who can enter models of any plane, car, vehicle or ship that were originally produced by a British Company. There is no entry fee, but entrants are asked to make a donation to the Spitfire Restoration Fund. The competition consists of two categories, Adults and Young People up to 16 years. The panel of judges includes Julian Mitchell, great nephew of Reginald Mitchell, and Mark Harris, Director of Supermarine. The winner of each category will receive a trophy designed and produced by the clubs.
Tour of Britain back in city
Thursday 13 September, 10.30am to 2pm
Trentham Gardens to City Centre
Details of this year’s stage five of The Tour of Britain have been unveiled and Stoke-on-Trent is celebrating five years of Britain’s greatest bike race visiting The Potteries. The race will take a 150km route heading through Stone, Stafford, Rugeley and Uttoxeter, Cannock Chase, Staffordshire Moorlands, Gun Hill, before finishing in the City Centre. Tour Ride
Sunday 23 September, 9.30am
Trentham Gardens
Take on stage five of the Tour of Britain for yourself, including either a 169km Pro Ride or a shorter 98km Challenge Ride, both starting and finishing in the Trentham Estate. For details, go to www.tourride.co.uk.
StreetGames sessions throughout the city
StreetGames delivers free sports multi-sports coaching to young people aged 8-18 in Stoke-on-Trent. Football, basketball, dodgeball, cricket and other activities - all delivered by professional sports coaches in a fun, friendly and safe environment. Closer to Home walking events around the city
The Closer to Home Walking Network deliver a comprehensive walking programme that targets specific areas and population groups in Stoke-on-Trent. These short health walks are led by experienced volunteers, are completely free and take place every day around the city’s beautiful parks and greenways. Walks usually last between 30 and 45 minutes and are for all ages and abilities. They also have a programme of special events over the Easter holidays. NORSACA Events
The North Staffordshire African Caribbean Association holds a range of regular events, activities and workshops for the whole community, including concerts, exhibitions and cultural awareness sessions.
