Since the 13th October there have been 41 thefts from vans in the North of the county.
Tuesday and Thursdays have been the peak days for offences to occur although offences have occurred on all days of the week. The majority of offences have occurred in the hours of darkness - overnight when the van has been parked up. The main area affected is Newcastle, predominately around Taybarns and Talke.
A large number of the offences particularly Ford Transits have been entered by unknown means - with the driver being sure that the vehicle had been left secure. Other methods of entry have included forced door / lock and smashed window. It is believed that offenders are using an electronic jammer type device to unlock the vehicle. Previously a Tibbe Pick has also been used - a device which can affect entry within about 20 seconds and uses the vehicles master lock to open all doors.
Please warn your neighbours to be on their guard and to make sure their vehicles are parked as securely as possible at all times.
Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers 0800 555 111
