A 31 year old man and a 32 year old woman have been arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending, following an operation in Stoke this morning.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team working in partnership with Stoke on Trent City Council executed a warrant at a residential property.

The suspects are currently in custody assisting officers from the Team with their enquiries.

Councillor Janine Bridges, cabinet member for housing, neighbourhoods and community safety, said:

"We are committed to working with our partners to crack down on loan sharks who callously target some of the most vulnerable members of the community. They prey on people who are desperate, exploiting their situation, and reaping the benefits of charging extortionate levels of interest.

"The arrests today demonstrate our zero tolerance approach to this type of despicable behaviour. Anyone who would like advice prior to taking out a loan or who has taken out a loan and is now concerned about it should call 0300 555 2222 in confidence."
