Officers are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in Tunstall.

Sadly, one of the women injured during the collision has since died at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, on Friday 25 January.

She was Kathleen Brennan, aged 71, from Stross Avenue, Little Chell, Stoke-on-Trent.

She was a passenger in a blue Vauxhall Corsa when it was in collision with a lamppost on Greenbank Road, at its junction with Sunnyside Avenue, at around 11.05am on Monday 31 December.

Specially trained officers are supporting her family at this difficult time and it is asked that their privacy is respected.

In a statement her family said: “We wish to thank everyone for their support, concern and prayers, during this difficult and traumatic time. We would also like to thank the staff of ward 227 for the care given to our much loved sister and auntie.”

The driver of the Corsa, a 76-year-old woman, from Stoke-on-Trent, was also taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. She suffered minor injuries and was released a short time later.

Following the collision, the road was closed until approximately 1.50pm while collision investigators examined the scene.

Sgt Ian Revans, investigating officer, said: “We have spoken to a number of witnesses who came forward after the collision but would like to hear from anyone who hasn’t already contacted us.

“Witnesses are asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 182 of December 31.”
