Film fans will be able to watch three classic movies at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. The museum is showing critically acclaimed films (Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Untouchables) on the last Friday of the month inside its 300-seat Forum Theatre from Friday 25 January until March. Save the date… Stoke Your Fires
1 to 5 March 2013
This year Stoke Your Fires celebrates the best of British cinema and opens with the UK festival premiere of independent British film, Pulp. There will also be screenings of Last Shop Standing, Turbulenceand Tortoise in Love, all made here in the UK, with a Q&A session with the directors. To celebrate Michael Caine’s 80th birthday in March, there will also be a day of some of his classic films and see another very British institution; Daniel Craig as 007 in Casino Royale. Come along to the very first Hush-Hush film event. What’s the film? We can’t tell you. Give yourself up to a totally live cinema experience at a mystery venue. Green Door events
A new lottery-funded project will begin this February and will run a programme of free health and wellbeing events and activities. Green Door aims to encourage people, particularly older and disabled people, to make more use of the green spaces in the city, to improve their physical and mental wellbeing and to reduce isolation. StreetGames sessions throughout the city
StreetGames delivers free sports multi-sports coaching to young people aged 8-18 in Stoke-on-Trent. Football, basketball, dodgeball, cricket and other activities - all delivered by professional sports coaches in a fun, friendly and safe environment. Closer to Home walking events around the city
The Closer to Home Walking Network deliver a comprehensive walking programme that targets specific areas and population groups in Stoke-on-Trent. These short health walks are led by experienced volunteers, are completely free and take place every day around the city’s beautiful parks and greenways. Walks usually last between 30 and 45 minutes and are for all ages and abilities. They also have a programme of special events over the Easter holidays.
