Free Walking
I was rather irritated to read in yesterdays Sentinel that anyone wanting to Walk around Trentham Lake will be charged for the privelidge of doing so from the end of March. As most people who use this site on a regular basis will know that I enjoy a good walk. No the people who own Trentham Estate are now making a few bob and I dare say that they also make a proportion of that from families who buy refreshments once they have enjoyed their walk. So here is a few ideas for a nice lake walk for free.
Wesport Lake only a mile away visitor centre to open shortly.
Giving my liver a rest
Since finishing work a week ago Thursday I have completly ignored the goverments warning on safe units of alcohol. My liver now probably resembles a pickled gherkin.Social gatherings evening soiree,s and the occaisional visit to the watering hole have taken there toll and increased my waistline. So after a 24 hour dry out me and the boss got up bright and early and set off for the Staffordshire Moorlands. Due to the slight overnight frost and a very brisk wind the Roaches were at their best.
Fancy some community spirit tonight ?
Well you all must be aware of my love of walking by now. So tonight I am going to indulge myself in one of my shorter bimbles. I like that word bimble. I will treck from the lofty hights of Heritage Park across the open space and through Swallows Rise. Across RMW and head up the High st towards Sandyford, a slight left behind the motorbike shop and onwards up Broadfield Rd. A bit dull this bit but the road gets better once you are past Goldenhill school and into the lane past The Cushion through Latebrook.
Camping
Well apart from a short walk along the Staffordshire Way last weekend I have not spent much time in the great outdoors since my bimble along Hadrians Wall.
So this weekend Myself and "she who must be obeyed" joined Mr & Mrs Popeye on a camping trip.I thought it wise that we avoid motorways due to Popeye,s fondness of littering them with camping equipment
. The Peak district was our destination and the weather was more than kind to us.
Big Lew
I have put a few pictures in the gallery. These are of my dad Lewis William Barrow and Roy Taylor. They were taken in the mid fifties, at Thurstfields timber yard. This was at the end of Wilkes St Tunstall. I know that many people from that era still live in the area although my family moved to Longport.Perhaps this will stir a few memories.
