Although i am i favour of alcohol free streets.... i am part of a local church that has been ministring to theses people...and signposting them to other organiastations that can help them to come of drink and drugs......i would be concered as to where would these people go to do their drinking and we would not have acess to them .....and would not be able to offer prayer for them......just a thought ...thank you..
Ban Alcohol Off The Streets
I'm sorry to say but most of these people don't want to be saved, and I'm for one in total agreement for clearing them from drinking in the Town Centre and on the streets. I have been verbally abused while standing in the Post Office shop queue (just for glancing at someone), I have seen young mothers ranting and raving, with a can in one hand and pushing a child in a pram with the other, drunken youths in charge of dogs the poor animals not knowing which way to turn as they are dragged around from pillar to post, all this on a regular basis, and last month because of the reputation THEY have earned this town, upon falling over in the High St my 90yr old father-law was sadly mistaken for one of them, whilst waiting for the ambulance someone was heard to say "this Town is getting worse for drunks" So yes! you can count me, my family, husbands family and our many many friends in on this one.

as you pray for them spare a prayer for the shops who are losing business as people think twice about shopping in town. spare a prayer for the shoppers who feel uncomfortable around them. spare a prayer for the police who have to break up fights or are pulled away from the streets of tunstall.
Tunstall drinking
I was born in Tunstall went to school there worked there. I moved away 10 years ago but have recently moved back. I can't belive what I am seeing the area has become a haven for drunks, junkies and every kind of ciminal that wants a safe house. King William street has had several bad reports in the local paper aswell as Bond street. Tunstall high street looks like the kind of place you would not want to spend an afternoon shopping its just a place to hang around and have a can of very cheap and strong lager. Why are these people aloud to hang around the streets making the place look like a ghetto in a third world country its ok to say we need to know where these people are so we can waste are time trying to save people who don't want to be saved. But Tunstall is a town in bad need of investment and new business but who in the right mind would spend money on an area that looks like this. The council want to have a think when they are allowing more and more shops to sell cheap booze this shows there is a demand for it so surely that says to them there is a serious problem. Time for them to get in the real world and just ban street drinking across the city.
The Street's not the place
I visit Tunstall every week to visit the shops - bank etc. I have been dismayed to see these people become more prominent. They are dragging the mood and atmosphere of Tunstall down and can be quite intimidating by their loud / foul mouthed behaviour. In the meantime we (taxpayers) pay them (alcoholics) benefits and in many cases incapacity benefit / disability allowance. What a joke.
The last thing the struggling High Street and its retail economy needs is anything that might put people off visiting and going elsewhere - we have more than one town in very close proximity don't forget!
Yes they need help - but the street is NOT the place for them to carry on with their behaviour and addiction.
It makes you wonder how this
It makes you wonder how this fits in with the council's masterplan to do away with all of the 5 towns and just make Hanley (sorry Stoke-on-Trent City Centre) the main place to go for shops.
I notices ADSIS in the Square
I notices ADSIS in the Square yesterday. They are a charity group for supporting and helping people with drug and alcohol dependencies. No one was at their stall, but there were many outside the the Odd Fellows at 11.30 am. smoking and with a pint in their hands. Total dregs!
Suppose it's not that far
Suppose it's not that far from the druggy centre is it?
Wish they'd get their Meth else where to be honest.
ADSIS are a very good group
ADSIS are a very good group who advocate controled Drinking, they try to educate people on the dangers of Alcohol and Substance Abuse but in the long run the Drinker or Drug user has got to WANT to stop. No matter what any one else may say to them when they are in the downward spiral they have to reach their own rock bottom before they turn for help. The Town Drunks that we have are at the moment happy to be the way they are and they CAN NOT see why they are a problem to every one else.
They must feel like the
They must feel like the untouchables
They probably dont feel
They probably dont feel anything, they have opted out of society as we know it (not always by choice) but still rely on the financial side of it and that is what annoys people most.
Alcoholics are not the mindless morons that a lot of people think they are, from the minuet they get up in the morning they are planning the day ahead with a precision that some people couldnt cope with. Also they know all the rules of right and wrong and how to work them to their advantage.

May be the link to petition is not clear. All i see is your poll for "Should the future of Stoke-on-Trent be based around 1 of the 6 towns or all? Vote Now"
Maybe thats why you have a low level of votes?

Sorry Guest, I assumed by making the post the top post for the past couple of weeks people would see it.
Possibly the title of the article "Should Tunstall's Streets become a alcohol free zone? Sign the on-line petition" would give it away
