Due to the recent poll about websites, it maybe a good idea to show how all residents can have their own website, this will range from free sites, to dedicated sites tailor made, I would ask all neighbours who want their own site to ask themselves, want they want from their site, just a presence, or would like their site to be profitable, maybe they would like to share photos with their family, or show their talents off, we will try to cater for your needs. Not only do we have neighbours who promote their own individual sites, right through to web developers who offer a professional approach to site design.

Websites part one
The easiest way to set up a website, or have a web presence is to either subscribe to sites such as myspace, utube, wordpress, or facebook, these offer a great way of starting your web presence, alternatively your service provider may offer you free web space within their site, as a rule free sites have to be subsidised by adverts, similar to the old forum. If you only want to put photos of your family, etc this will be more than adequate.
Websites part two
IF you get free space from your service provider, or buy space from previously mentioned providers, how do you get information from your input to the server, some software have a built in publisher, otherwise you need an FTP program, file transfer protocol, some are free, some you have to purchase, what they do is to transfer your website to the server, all websites, free or otherwise will give you the ftp site with which to upload your site to, it is straightforward, like copying a file from one directory to another,
Websites part three
If you want a website that will make you money, you need a service, such as web monkey provides, everyone would love to provide a service, that does not cost, this is false economy, many people have set up websites in order to make money, they fall short, due to lack of exposure, hits, etc, my own opinion is "you get what you pay for"
Websites part four
So you have checked out the free sites, but you would like a site without adverts, and without the long URLs which usually come with them, and you are on a budget.
You can buy your own domain name, such as "bankeyfields", there are many companies that have a domain name search, and also offer web hosting services, "fasthosts", "one and one" and "easyspace" are just a few, I have used easyspace for our site and have never had a problem.
Expect to pay £40+ a year for a home package, usually this will include a co.uk domain name, most companies also provide a web creator, so no need to buy web publisher software, domain names roughly cost from £5 a year for a co.uk, .com .uk .net and so on cost more.
