Education of children

view counter

There has been forum activity this week about educating your children, and thought about asking the community their views on what they thought of parents driving their cars whilst using their mobiles, whilst their children are watching what they are doing. Maybe schools could teach the children, when they see this activity, by chanting daddy or mummy is breaking the law, obviously any parent who uses their mobile, is not only breaking the law, but putting their child at risk, putting on a seat belt whilst moving, or even turning around to talk to your children is classed as due care and attention.

Here is a question
If your child was on a coach, and you saw the driver on a mobile phone, would you report it.

Education of the children,

Education of the children, could you rename this post to educate the parents, or how else will the children ever learn.

I am not an expert on this

I am not an expert on this subject, maybe there are teachers on the estates that could shed some light on this debate, in my opinion, it is easier to teach children, than adults. I am sure if one of my daughters told me I was doing anything wrong, I would listen, and be more embarrassed than any TV campaign, or literature posted through my door.

Although, I remember the

Although, I remember the litter campaigns, and the wombles.
I remember the green cross code, and the adverts of young hedgehogs being injured crossing the road.
I remember Grange hill, and the just say no song.
The just learn to swim young man adverts.
The cycle proficiency tests.
So I presume what was learnt at the age of six has stayed with me 40 years on, and I know nothing of telly tubby custard, or what the latest craze is. I really should learn, as will try to help my siblings to help their siblings, although think they do a good job without me.

You've made a good point.

You've made a good point. Apart from the singing hedgehog, what messages are getting through to kids through the use of tv.

Why do we not have youth

Why do we not have youth clubs, cubs, scouts, guides, brownies, boys and girls brigade, in the area, we have the premises, eg, schools, church halls, we should be investing in the future, although a friend of mine has problems organising shows because of health and safety, chaperoning etc, has bob a job day become a thing of the past.

The hedgehogs were not

The hedgehogs were not singing, a young hedgehog was knocked over by car because he had seen his friend across the road, I was in tears, the first time I saw it, but it put out a powerful message, one that has stayed with me.

Mobile use...first hand

Mobile use...first hand experience
A few years back i used to work for a well known removals company and we used to move the military around the world, and i was a passenger in a truck and we were heading from raf cosford to corsham in Wiltshire, and we were heading west on the m4 at swindon and the driver takes a call on his mobile and I tell him to forget the call and concentrate on the road as we were leaving at the next exit, He then took his eyes off the road and our fully loaded truck flew down the bank and hit the post and rail fence at the bottom and carried on along the fence at around 60 mph until it came to a stop, the fence rails speared into the cab and around 7 rails missed me by inches and finally we stopped and the truck was on its side with a fence rail under my arm and out the passenger window, two had gone into my arm and one rested on my temple and pinned me to the seat ! after a lot of stitches i was amazed i survived such a accident and the driver came off uninjured and all he kept saying is where is my phone ! he later got fined and had to go on a driver improvement program but got done for driving without due care...

SO DON`T BE STUPID OR CLEVER BY USING YOUR PHONE...IT WILL KILL YOU ! AND YOUR CHILDREN, IT`S JUST A MATTER OF TIME...DON`T USE YOUR PHONE

THIS WILL BE A ISSUE I WILL TACKLE ON THE ESTATE VERY SOON... IF YOU SEE USING THE PHONE WHILE DRIVING ANYONE...PLEASE SEND ME A PM!

Whilst I do not in anyway

Whilst I do not in anyway condone the use of phones whilst driving it does annoy me slightly that the media have jumped on this sin alone. How many times have you seen someone chain smoking in a car, eating a banana, putting their makeup on in a traffic jam, blasting music out of a stereo so loud that they cannot hear the ambulance behind them!!

As a teenager, I once was a passenger in a car driving to London for work. When we entered the Hammersmith area, the driver changed from his shorts and T-shirt into his trousers, shirt and Tie whilst still driving!!

Bikers that undertake on dual carriageways/motorways and the government advert, now you see him, now you see him!!! Yes now I see him because he just put my life and his at risk by undertaking me!!!

Bad driving is bad driving - end of.

I'm with ghost on this. I

I'm with ghost on this. I find it unfuriating that having a mobile phone in working order whilst driving is seen as a criminal offence, whereas holding a burning piece of cancer (and lets not forget this is in a petrol/diesel driven vehicle) is not outlawed. Surely there's far more danger involved should a piece of ash fall, and the driver then (understandibly) might move his or her focus from driving, to preventing a major fire!

I thnk that using a mobile telephone is actually safer than having a conversation with a passenger. It is far more likely that you take your eyes off the road to look at the person you are talking to, than if the other person is elsewhere, and the conversation is over the phone.

Everything is relative, but I think that incorrect priorities have been made.

I think there are a lot of things you can do whilst driving and the are all as bad as each other...lol on the suject of pets..stray dogs lol !!

I can only add to Steves

I can only add to Steves comments to the use of mobile phones, is that they distract from what the person is trying to do, a young girl was in a comma for months, brain damaged, needed to learn everything again, still cannot walk properly, lost all ambitions of what she wanted to be, the innocent victim went through hell, on medication for over a year, all though no blame, has still not recovered from the incident, and probably never will, had therapy, which does not come cheap, all for a mobile phone, when bluetooth, wireless, and other solutions are less than twenty pounds, is it worth a life or two.
