When we had sky+, the sky

When we had sky+, the sky fitter swapped the pointy bit of the dish for a new pointy bit (I'm getting technical now). The nwe pointy bit is capable of running 4 sat feeds from it.

With Sky + you use 2 for the box,a nd I've hooked up a third cable that runs into the conservatory.

As to fitters, fitting came with the dish so can't help you there.

Have a look on ebay or The

Have a look on ebay or The Sentinel for a set top box, you can get them quite cheap.

or upgrade to sky+ , keep your old box, they upgrade your sky dish, and you just need to run another lead from the arial into the house - ask the sky man whilst he's there. And send off for a sky freeview card.

The "pointy bit" is known as

The "pointy bit" is known as a LNB, you can get them from screwfix, £20 + vat, Sky+ is a good option, but the two cables will go to the sky box in one room, hence record two programs at once, web monkeys 4 outputs give you the option for a further two rooms, this is known as sky + multi room, all of which price dependant on which package you have. Not sure about the question entirely, but if you would like to watch sky in a room other than the one where the box is, just buy a video sender/receiver, Argos, Asda, maplins, Aldi, all sell them, they also come with a remote control sensor, which enables you to switch channels on the sky box from whichever room you have the receiver in, if this is what you mean, pop down later.

Further to my previous

Further to my previous comment, if you buy a sender/receiver and later upgrade your sky package, you simply plug the sender into your DVD, video, music centre, games console etc, and still be able to make good use of it, away from its source. Applause

Just checking James, does

Just checking James, does your sky feed already get sent around the house? I think all Wilcon houses have the facility to do this. If you know this already, then I'll shut up.

Thanks for th reference

Thanks for th reference Janet and steve.

Not sure WM- I know there are aerial points all over, but none of them seem to work.

James Having walked past

James
Having walked past your house, have noticed that your sat cable goes into the loft, suggesting that you have a global communications distribution loft box, this box brings the transmission from the dish through the box, then down to your sky box, it then amplifies the signal from the sky box to all sky points into your house. Firstly make sure that the loft box is switched on, should see a green light shining in your loft, then make sure that you have a connection from your sky box back to the distribution box.
Due to the signal being distributed to other rooms, you lose part of the signal, but not enough for you to notice a significant difference.
You will then be able to watch sky in all rooms with a point, although you will not be able to use the sky remote, unless you have a remote control sender/receiver.

http://www.globalcom.co.uk/prod_loftbox.php

This is why I suggested a video sender, as it comes with a remote control extender.

congletonvets's picture

They is some type of boxy

They is some type of boxy thing just inside tohe loft, with loads of aerial points going into it. Lights are on (but nobody's home!) I'll have a look, and report back. Would be ideal. I only want a tv in my bedroom, but without sky the signal is rubbish!

sharky's picture

James If that is all you

James
If that is all you want, get the video sender/ receiver.

Web Monkey's picture

James - in your living room

James - in your living room - have a look where the TV is. Is there two aerial points?

If there is two, the second one feeds back into the rest of the house, so from there we feed the sky box into the tv and back into the house.

Then we use a magic eye to change sky channel from upstairs.

Ideal for any house hold where you have 4 1/2 hours of soaps every night.

Could you explain this a bit

Could you explain this a bit more, I have the sky box in the living room, the ariel socket lead goes to the sky box, then from the sky box to the TV, should I put another lead then from the sky box to the other ariel socket or from the tv to the other socket?, (bye the way Like the signature) Barbara

The coaxial cable from the

The coaxial cable from the sky box to the TV should not really be needed, as this done via the scart lead, however, some Sky boxes have a coax in, and two out, which should go to the single tv wall plate, it then goes to the loft box, and distributed around the house, if you have one coax out, and it is needed for the TV, you can get a "Y" shaped splitter, this should have come with your Wilcon welcome pack
