I do not know if it was a problem with my laptop, or a problem with my anti virus, but if any other users are using vista and AVG 8 free, and you have had a problem updating your software, "missing bin file", simply reboot your system, and all should be well.

My AVG has been behaving.
My AVG has been behaving. Did your computer shut down properly last time?
It has tended to hang once
It has tended to hang once or twice at POST, take away the printer lead from the usb and it boots fine, I always shutdown properly, maybe need a bios update, or I get rid of some start up rubbish, although my neighbour cleared loads of unwanted junk, that is when it started, but boots much faster.
Have you defragged your hard
Have you defragged your hard drive?
I always have a strict
I always have a strict routine whereby I back up, do a full virus scan, and defrag whether it wants it or not, how boring am I, I have noticed that on an earlier version of AVG, it updated itself everytime I booted up, this later version sometimes gets a connection failure, and I have to manually update the definitions, but you only get what you pay for, and if it is free, you cannot complain, but I have read AVG is getting to be a little resource hungry, but still, (my own opinion) less hungry than Norton.
I believe it is a known bug
I believe it is a known bug with AVG and Vista
if you are suffering from slow performance and have malware issues, please try this free to use software, it is free to scan and fix but you have to pay for subscription.

I have used a few programs
I have used a few programs like search and destroy etc, but thanks for the tip, thinking of putting back a start up program which appears to be in chinese and wing dings, do not know what it is but it all started around the same time I stopped it from the start up group.
This maybe a pure
This maybe a pure coincidence but I was contacted recently to extend the warranty on my system, I declined, that is when all this started, I have also been contacted by sky, for the same reason, once again I declined, and have had to reboot my sky box a few times since, can they build in a code to make you want to sign up for extended warranties, it is very spooky do you not think.
There are so many green
There are so many green meanies out there to pillage your computer that it could be down to so many things, most of them nasty.
As to your conspiracy theory Fox Mulder, windows has a kill switch built into it. It's called genuine windows, and if you fail, it makes your life a misery.
