Bankeyfields Open-space gets a haircut !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Click thumbnails for larger image

Looks like all the phone calls made regarding the open-space and the state of the grass have paid off as the grass is being cut today. Will be nice to walk on the open-space without wearing wellies because we will be able to see all the dog poo that is lying around after the glass back brigade have taken their cherished pooing machines for a walk. In the process of getting the council to come out and re-stencil the pavements on the open space with the clean it up notices. Fingers crossed should be done before winter sets in.

I'd heard a strange noise

I'd heard a strange noise coming from the back, which to be fair since the firestation started to go up, we've had daily drilling and banging, so I almost dismissed them. But then a idea formed, I didn't believe it, but maybe just maybe, and there it was a tractor pulling the cutting attachments, giving the Bankeyfields openspace a quick once over.

Camera in hand I thought better grab a few picks of this auspicious occasion. At the top gates of John Rhodes Way, I was met by a council worker who was trying to get through the gates into the parks by way of a hammer and a padlock.

He informed me that the contract for mowing the open space had now been handed over to the council (he did say county council - but I think he may have been a little confused from the hammer blows on the lock)

I also asked whilst he was here if they'd be carrying out any repairs on the fences around the park, but was told that was the developers responsibility not theirs. I assumed a maintenance contract for the open space (the fences were put in at the same time the open space was developed) would be one and the same thing, but apparently not - we'll have to wait and see, but I can see it being another sticking point to getting the estate adopted.

Lastly, if the council are now accepting owership of the openspace - what happens to last years reported £89k we had in the kitty - another talking point at the forthcoming Residents Association meeting. If you feel we are getting a bit short changed by the council I expect you to get down to the next meeting.

If like last year, the cut grass will be left to rot in the rain, or dry out in the sun (potential fire hazard).

So then, what do you think of this £10k grass cutting exercise?

Bryn, hope you don't mind, I've added some pictures I'd taken (probably as you were typing)
