Scam Alert: Ivory Coast Email Scam

By

view counter

Problem: A resident of Stoke on Trent has recently received an email supposedly from a wealthy lady living abroad. According to the email, she is dying of cancer and needs help to donate her wealth to various charities, churches and to a nurse who has cared for her during her final illness. The email asks that the recipient contacts the nurse, who lives in the Ivory Coast, Africa, to arrange a bank transfer of some of the funds into her account. If the recipient administers the money according to the benefactor’s wishes, they would be able to retain 40% of the funds for themselves.

Action: This is a scam. The perpetrators will ask for your bank details, supposedly to transfer money into your account. In fact, all available money would be taken out of your bank account. Never give your bank account details in reply to any email of this sort.
