A couple of weeks ago we set off on a Saturday afternoon to Blackbrook Zoo in the Staffordshire Moorlands, not far past leek on the ashbourne road.

Blackbrook can boast to be the biggest bird park in the UK over 30 acres, with a massive variety (300) of birds and animals.

The zoo is relatively new, only being built in 1991, but has become a visitor favourite, for a number of reasons.

The first being the breeding program of some of the worlds most endangered birds.

The second being some of the stand out attractions such as the Meerkats enclosure, the finest penguin area in Europe, and the fun animal characters around the park.
