The top part of Reginald Mitchell Way will not be made into a 30MPH zone [update]

I've made a freedom of information request using the website What Do They Know, which is a free service that allows you to publicly make information requests, which the council then pick up and act on (or answered very badly in the case of my previous FOI)

The current request is for two pieces of information that the Bankeyfields Residents Association has been trying to get out of Councillor Ryan for some time, and have yet to had any information back.

Basically back in January when the Chief fire officer dealing with Sandyford Fire Station gave a presentation at one of our meetings, the question was asked if the road will be reduced to 30MPH from KFC roundabout to John Rhodes Way (FOCUS) roundabout, when it was mentioned the plans had been altered for the fire station, making provision for the fire engines to exit both up and down Reginald Mitchell Way by means of a new intersection.

We were also told at that meeting that a set of pelican crossings between the firestation and John Rhodes Way (FOCUS) roundabout would be put in place and again there has been no notification of this in writing.

Keep you posted.

Oh! Looks like we've been fed

Oh! Looks like we've been fed yet more bull.

I've had a reply from a Freedom of Information request reply that I've recently made in relation to information we'd been given to further safety measures for Reginald Mitchell Way.

The two items, 30 MPH reduction of the speed limit and a crossing on the lower part of Reginald Mitchell Way.

Your request for information on Reginald Mitchell Way

We have now considered your request for information and a copy of the
information is below.

1. With the new fire station crossing been put in place, will the speed limit of Reginald Mitchell Way from the John Rhodes/Marlborough Way (FOCUS) roundabout up to the High Street (KFC) roundabout, be lowered to 30MPH because of the new fire station crossing lights?

The road works for Sandyford Fire Station involves the creation of an emergency exit from the site out onto Reginald Mitchell Way and includes alterations to the central reservation, the installation of traffic signals and a box junction. These works are purely to facilitate the operation of the new site in an emergency situation and do not have any affect on the current speed limit which will remain unaltered.

2. We have been led to believe by our local councillor and the local fire service, that a second set of pelican crossings will be installed lower between Rhodes/Marlborough Way (FOCUS) roundabout and the new fire station intersection of Reginald Mitchell Way but have never had any written confirmation. Please can I be permitted to see any documentation of these new traffic lights?

No additional pedestrian crossings are necessary to facilitate the development, a plan of the general access arrangements can be provided. However, due to copyright restrictions we can only send this to you via a personal email address or post. On receipt of this we would draw your attention to the fact that the
Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 will continue to apply to the drawing. The drawing is supplied for your sole purpose only. Should you wish to use the information in any other way, for example by making multiple copies or issuing copies to the public, prior written permission must be obtained. Should you wish to see more detailed drawings please contact Claire Simpson on 01782 237889 to arrange an appointment to view them at Civic Centre, Stoke-on-Trent.

If you have any queries about this email, please do not hesitate to
contact me.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision,
you should write to: Louise Kelly, Information Manager, Chief
Executive’s Directorate, Civic Centre Floor 4, Glebe Street, ST4 1HH or
email [1][Stoke on Trent City Council request email].

If, after contacting us, you are not content with the outcome, you may ask
the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the Information
Commissioner cannot make a decision unless you have already used our
appeal procedure. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: The
Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Once again the city council &

Once again the city council & every other authority feed people with the Bull they want you to hear so no one complains about works going on, but these promises never come to anything, the amount of times I was fed bucket loads of rubbish from councillors etc. When campaigning for the crossing at the top of Reginald Mitchell Way, but we did eventually get it, thank god we did atleast get one crossing over this bloody road.

But it makes you laugh they want this new fire station to be part of the community but we will not provide any safe route over a dual carriageway with a speed of 40mph (now what is it they are always advertising SPEED KILLS), perhaps this is there plan to keep the fire services busy with accidents on the road.

I wonder where people would stand legally if we staged a protest on this road blocking it to traffic etc to get our point across that we need a crossing further down Reginald Mitchell Way.

It truly wears you down Tony

It truly wears you down Tony I can tell you. I'll make sure this one goes onto the next agenda.

I don't know if your suggestion is legal, but it would certainly raise awareness again.

What else do you suggest?

I wonder if when the fire

I wonder if when the fire station opens we could get the fire fighters on board with the campaign, once they see & hear the traffic volumes and speed, they might be as shocked as we are, and if the fire services are as interested as they said about being part of the community, they will join the estates fight to make changes to this road or will they turn a blind eye to it all as they have now got there shiny new station.

Only time will tell.
