Prince Philip is at it again, this time he let slip back in 1997 when meeting Joan Walley at Buckingham Palace what he thought.

MP, Mrs Walley has kept tight lipped about the exchange, but Tony Blair made the revelation known in his Biography "A Journey" this week. Tony Blair states that Phil "doesn't give a damn about what people think of him".

Prince Philip, whose had the life of privilege for most of his life, is often making gaffes, and often speaks his mind, before engaging it.

Local MP Rob Fello and Historian Fred Hughes have all spoken out about the exchange, but maybe for once Prince Philips remarks could serve as a reminder that Stoke-on-Trent is being left behind in terms of Jobs, Investment and preservation of the bits that are good and needs this countries support.

This timely revelation comes of the back of the collapse of RENEW North Staffs, and the removal of funds from towns like Burslem to support over the top schemes such as Hanley's new bus station.

I think if we got upset about

I think if we got upset about everyone who had said something negative about Stoke-on-Trent in the last 15 years we would never have any time in the day. Good grief. I remember getting National Express busses in and out of Hanley around 1997 and it was bleak.

Let's not play the victim any more and let's not join the enormous crowd of people getting wound up by Blair's book.

That's what I think Smile

I'm not upset Clare I think

I'm not upset Clare I think it's a good talking point for people of the city. We need to start thinking about what could be better, and how we can make it better.

I also think Prince Philip has a point, and it needs figure heads like him to address the point. It's up to us now to roll with it and work towards a better future.

I hope people can start this process off by writing to their MP Joan Walley and Stoke on Trent City Councillors asking them to attend the forthcoming Urban vision conference

P.S watch this space re: Painting of the Spitfires

This just says everything

This just says everything about our local MPs.
Why did not Joan Whalley say something earlier, and Flello's comments are irrellivent.
These two have been in Parliament for a very long time and have overseen the demise of this city.
Personally I think they are both a waste of time as they have achieved nothing for this city.
All you have to do is look around to see the state of the whole of Stoke-on-Trent.
We need MPs who are not there just o tow the party line, after all we elect them to serve us don't we????

Stoke and the surrounding

Stoke and the surrounding area have been let down by the council we have allowed these people to run this city into the ground with bad investment and bad decision making. The council’s top officials are not even local people they have come from outside the area and decimated this once thriving industrious city. You only have to look at the Blue Planet project, a building of this size should be bringing jobs and security too hundreds of people within the area but instead it has been left vacant for over twelve months.

Just on the 'track' of the

Just on the 'track' of the Royal family. Prince Charles is doing the UK tour promoting green issues.

He is travelling on the Royal Train which is 8 carriages long visiting various parts of the UK.

It states that the train is using bio fuel but it is still costing £50,000.00 to run this beast.

Hmmmm, with his entourage and such like, I wonder what actually is HIS ' carbon footprint' left by this Do-Gooding exercise?

What’s wrong with using a 1st class carriage on an already scheduled train service?

I did laugh when I saw the report on the news.....!

Gaffs and Father do spring to mind?

i like Prince Philip and his gaffs, they are honesty said. and sometimes what he says is what everyone is thinking anyway just that people are to polite to say it out loud.

one point is that he must think the better parts of s-o-t are ghastly, as the royal family are only shown the "better parts" and the areas are usually tidied up before any visits.

ive been trying to find the story about how Prince Charles helpped to save the terraced houses along high street, it must be about 25 years or so when the s-o-t council wanted to knock all the terreced houses down , there was abig campaign by residence- they wanted the council to "do them up" which they did in the end. but i can remember Prince charles had a hand in saving them -saying that the victorian houses should be left to stand as they were of good architecture and that the community would be lost.

can anyone else remember this story?
