Breast Cancer Awareness Month
A staggering one in nine women in this country will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their life time.
However improved awareness, screening and treatment has significantly improved the outlook for breast cancer patients over the course of the last 30 years.
In the West Midlands the number of people dying every year from the disease has fallen significantly in the last decade.
In 1989 in the region just under 10 (9.81) out of every 100,000 women died. By 2008 that figure had fallen to just under eight (7.71) out of every 100,000 women.
Throughout October five cancer charities (Cancer Research UK, Breast Cancer Campaign, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Breast Cancer Care, The Pink Ribbon Foundation) have teamed up to raise awareness and encourage pink-themed fundraising events.
