Police investigating the tragic death of Israr Ellahi have now charged a man aged 18 from Stoke-on-Trent with manslaughter.

The man is also accused of violent disorder and affray, is due to appear before magistrates in the city next month.

On the same date 5 other men will also appear in court to face charges of violent disorder and other public order offences, in connection with the same incident. They are all from the city, three of them aged 17-years-old and two are 29-years-old.

Mr Ellahi died in hospital in July following an incident of disorder in Roundwell Street, Tunstall on Friday 18 June.

We have informed the family of Mr Ellahi and have explained the next stages of the process.

The Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS) decision to charge follows a very complex investigation which has taken some time to complete. As the local police commander I want to thank the community for their continued support.

I am very much aware of the concern this tragic incident has caused to members of our community and the local neighbourhood police team will continue to work with residents to tackle the issues that matter to them.

If you wish to discuss anything about this incident or any other issues affecting your community please speak to a member of your local policing team.
Inspector Mark Hardern.
Tunstall Police Commander
