Fire at Kidsgrove Scouts HQ on The Avenue
Firefighters have been tackling a fire at the Scouts Headquarters on The Avenue in Kidsgrove this morning.
Crews from Kidsgrove and Sandyford responded to a call just after 10.50am to report that there was a fire in a three by four metre breeze block outbuilding.
Firefighters used one hose reel jet the tackle the fire and Network Rail were also informed due to heavy smoke drifting across the nearby railway lines.
Station Manager, Andy Kinsman said: “The fire was brought under control quickly however the outbuilding was being used to store archery and barbecue equipment which has been destroyed. The roof has also been destroyed by the fire.
“The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and could have potentially caused serious problems for passing trains as the smoke was blowing across the tracks. Whoever started this fire not only endangered the lives of nearby members of the public but they also put themselves in danger.”
Crews left the scene at 12.10pm.

I just hope that the
I just hope that the Kidsgrove Scout chapter can recover from this, and all of their insurance is up to date.
These groups aren't made of money, but offer a fantastic service by teaching our kids valuable life and every day skills, but more importantly installing in them a sense of duty and decency.
